  • Compact and easy to carry, reasonable security, well designed mounting.
Color: Black
This is a standard-length bike lock for locking a bicycle. This length allows the front tire to be removed and set next to the bike and the lock looped through the front and rear wheel and around the seat tube and a pole. This secures both wheels and the frame. U-locks and most cable locks are designed for the same technique. Then flat plates are highly resistant to bolt cutters. The wide direction does not fit the jaw, and the flat area causes the contact area to be too high to cut. Not sure how it will fare against an angle grinder, but it is probably not any easier than any chain. The RC-50 hardness is usually a good balance between strength and brittleness. I assume that the engineers optimized this for the alloy used. There is probably a set of tools that could be devised to pry at the pivots, but this is probably not a normal thing. I am not a bike thief, and it has been a long time since I worked at a bike shop, so I am not up to date. What this type of lock does well is to be far more compact and easier to carry than cables, chains and u-locks. With the associated mounting, it is easily carried on the frame instead of in a backpack or on an awkward mount cantilevered mounting scheme. The bracket is designed to be mounted to standard water bottle mounts and has extra 'hose' clamps to support the extended length. With the lock inserted from the side, causes the rigid structure of the mount to absorb vibrations and shocks and to avoid stressing the elastic band used to retain it. In my use, this works well and is very quiet. It is a big improvement on my previous cable lock and significantly better than any u-lock I have seen. At least one reviewer worried about scratching the frame, but the plastic coating of the links seems to prevent this as well as making it relatively silent on rough roads. I prefer this type of lock because it is easy to carry and to deploy as long as you have a spare water bottle location. The mount is intelligently designed, and the lock is quiet while riding. There are a lot of somewhat similar designs that cost a lot less and a lot more. The really cheap ones are usually thinner and lighter. Similar sized ones seem to cost more, but performance information is difficult to come by. The price seems good to me. In the long run, all locks can be defeated. You need something that will delay the thief and be secure enough that the thieves go for a softer target. In most cases this should do the trick. ... show more

  • Very heavy
Color: Orange-black
I was surprised at how heavy this is. It feels very solid and is nice looking. The part to attach the bike to something is relatively short which means unless you can attach to a bike rack or have something else smallish you can get really close to this isn't for you. I need something with a longer piece that could say, go around a small tree or a larger post. For those who don't need this much length, this is great. It folds up to about 8x2 inches which is small enough to stash in a cargo bag. You will need to be careful about putting it with anything fragile because it weighs almost 4 lbs. and could easily crush anything lighter-in short-don't put in with your sunglasses! If this would meet your needs I definitely recommend it but I need to find something different. ... show more

  • Really Heavy Duty - Easy to Mount
Color: Orange-black
So I put this lock on my Radmission e-bike and so far am very happy with it. The is the first foldable lock I've used and I really like how heavy duty it is. I definitely feel comfortable leaving it locked up to run into a store or have a coffee or meal. I've seen other brands at the Rad shop that I've always wanted to try but the price was more than double the price of this lock. The instruction to install are on the box and very easy to follow. I mounted mine on my top bar near the seat stem. One thing to note is that you only have about 12" to work with, so your frame and structure you are locking to need to be fairly close. This lock is also keyed, but I carry keys with me anyway for the battery, so another one is no big deal for me. All said, this lock gives me peace of mind for at least short periods where I want to leave it locked up. It's a heavy duty sucker, and for that I'm grateful. It's a fair price compared to others, so I'd recommend it. ... show more

  • Solid/Heavy Duty
Color: Orange-gray
For the average biker this lock will do for everyday use. I think it would take a professional to crack open this lock. Your bike will certainly be secure. I have another lock with a code on it. After using it for a while, I realize how awkward it is to bend down and fiddle with the numbers to get them to line up. This lock uses keys. The key will be on the keychain with my house key. The combination lock type was because I was apprehensive about losing the key. The reality is I've never lost my house key so why would I lose the lock key attached with my house key? I have a spare house key. And now I have three spare keys for my lock. That's a good thing. The only instructions that you get are the ones printed on the box. One of the pictures from the vendor in the listing shows three bracket gaskets as well as three rubber pads. There were no rubber pads included with mine. One of my attached photos shows the three plastic brackets with one of them turned upside down. The two facing up look like the rubber gaskets, they're not, but this is what is included. Other photos show how I attached this to my electric scooter. I have five caveats for this lock. There is a rubber band that secures the lock inside the bracket that holds it. In Arizona it gets extremely hot during the summer months. This rubber band (circled in red)won't last two months. The length of this lock could be longer. The tile in the photo are 16". You'll really need to be close to a pole. To unlock the lock the key must remain in the lock while you're releasing the peg which holds it inside its metal frame. You won't be able to unlock it, put the key away, and then release the lock. There are two screws and washers for anyone who wants to drill holes into their bike frame to attach this lock. Lastly, it's metal, and metal will scratch the finish on your bike. Three stars. It absolutely will secure your bike. But, I don't want to damage the finish on my bike by using this metal-on-metal lock. When the rubber band breaks will I use a coat hanger to keep it secured? ... show more
