Description

If you're a budding artist or seeking to expand your realm of expertise and dabble in oil painting, then this book is for you! Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet, or Kindle device. Have you ever stared in awe at a beautiful oil painting? If so, have you ever checked out the little price tag placed on the wall next to it? Most likely it was a hefty one, since many of the best oil paintings are a product of countless hours of work at the hand of a passionate artist. Oil painting, while not a quick pursuit by any means, can in fact prove to be relatively easy for a novice painter. This is mainly due to the slow drying nature of the paint which allows you to revisit and alter your masterpiece at your discretion. So whether you're new to painting altogether, or you're already an artist simply looking to add a new medium to your repertoire, oil painting is a great technique to adopt. It's not only emotionally soothing, but you'll end up with a beautiful piece of work that you can either display in your own home, or sell to a lucky bidder in order to make some extra cash. Whatever your intention is, this book is designed to get you started on the right path. I'll help you select and purchase the supplies you need to get started; I'll help you understand the essentials of oil painting; and I'll help you develop more confidence in controlling the medium. Although this book utilizes the genre of still life painting in order to get the information across, the techniques discussed can be incorporated similarly into any other genre. If you're ready to learn everything you need to know, including how to begin your painting; the importance of underpainting; how to add shadows, highlights, color, and blending; and how to clean up and finish your paintwork, then let's get started! • I'll Be The Next Dali!
I'll Be The Next Dali! Well maybe not as good but definitely as nutty. Author Tiffany Wentworth has created easy-to-do art book unlike any other I have seen. First there are no pictures! How can you have an art book with no pictures, you ask. Amazingly enough this book does not need pictures. It is the perfect book for me. I have never been successful drawing or painting. I am a beginner in the highest order. Ms. Wentworth takes you by the hand guiding you to your first work. She covers the little details like how to stretch a canvas, if you want to save money. You learn what to buy. She list the colors of paint and the size and quality of the brushes and tools. How to prepare your canvas for painting is covered. She does the best explanation of understanding blending and mixing colors I have seen. You learn about shadows and the colors within light. She does not tell you hoe to paint or what to paint, except she recommends your first work should be a still life. Her instructions are so clear and easy-to-follow I do believe I can do it. I saw a cheap oil painting set at Big Lots (a discount store) I'll buy it this weekend and start my first Masterpiece. Oops, artist Wentworth would not approve of the cheap quality but I'll buy some real paints etc. for my second masterpiece. Fun, Fun...Highly Recommended! B.T.W. I love Dali, The Dali Museum is here in Saint Petersburg. If you are anywhere near take the family to see Dali's work. But you must take the guided tour (no charge for the expert guide). Even the kids will enjoy it. ... show more

  • Not up to standards, even for Amazon
Shame on Amazon for selling this one. I had an open mind - I have done oil painting in my lifetime - over twenty years ago. I just wanted to remember how to prime the canvas and learn what is new with the materials. But, this book is strange - is it even legal? - the copyright page is the strangest that I have ever seen. The publicity on the back page promises more than the book delivers. And, who is Tiffany Wentworth? Why is she qualified to publish a book? This manuscript is qualified to be a blog or an entry to Wikipedia. The price is not justified. I must add, however, that the author does attempt to teach you to be a real artist and to avoid the problems of most "how-to" books. That is, a "how-to" book will only show you how to create a "craft". You can follow a "how-to" book, step by step and thus create decorations for your home or gifts for your friends, but you will never learn to be an artist - that takes a college education (not the same as a continuing education course) or years of self-teaching accompanied by association with real artists. Funny then, that the author talks about creating a decoration for your home. I realize that you can find just about anything onAmazon - buy beware - but this is one that even Amazon should have turned down. ... show more

  • Student colours and artist's colours
If you are really just starting out then you may want to get a book that gives you a step-by-step guide as to how to paint a particular scene or painting, then you can learn the methods used to bring the painting to life. It would not hurt to add illustrations.

  • Great Cover But Minimal Content -- 1 Star is Generous
Don't waste your money. The best thing about this "book" is its cover. The content itself is very short and doesn't give great detail -- it has 24 pages. And that's stretching it. (I view it on my Kindle app for my iPad.) If it were an 8" x 11" page, the "book's" total would come to maybe 5 pages -- at most. It also has six "chapters." It's VERY short and is worth about .10 cents, not the $1.99 I paid for it. If I could give this product a lower score than one star, I would. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a negative 10. ... show more
