  • A Great Reference Book for the DIY Solar Power System Installer
“Off Grid Solar Power Simplified” is without a doubt a value added guide on engineering the right solar power system for whatever your application is like an off grid cabin, RV, Tiny Homes, etc. It goes well beyond teaching you how to spell “Solar Power” like so many other books on the subject. The author systematically walks you through the details of how to design a complete system and make it efficient both in energy and in cost. Face it, copper cables are not cheap. He explains the pros and cons of configuring your batteries and solar panels to reduce the cost of your cables used in your system as one example. He also has his own YouTube channel that reinforces the concepts in the book as well. Not all authors have done this. He is definitely a subject matter expert on DIY off grid solar systems and helps you develop an intuitive understanding of the various topics that go into developing your own unique off grid solar power system. This reference has more than paid for itself in the cost savings of doing the design/build of our system. In my opinion it is a must have to take on a project of this caliber and is a great value for the budget minded solar enthusiasts. We have two paper copies and one digital copy on our iPad for easy reference. One copy is kept with our solar power system and the other is in my home office. On the lite side, Engineer's are essentially lazy and I’m an Engineer and Program Manager by profession. We design things based on cost, schedule, and performance and this book is value added to all three areas. ... show more

  • Great summary of Solar Power

  • Plenty of Information
321 pages, all the math is done for you. Many reviews of Brand names and where they came from. IE: will they work in US. Australia, Europe etc. Detailed explanations of what NOT to do. How to ruin batteries and blow diodes etc. clear printing, great pictures. 5 sample systems. Two that I already have and he talked me out of getting a third one. His website and free password connects to more in depth help. Best book I have read at this price point. ... show more

  • Not up to date
So some good information. Not really any up to date info, in my opinion with a 2022 copyright date, on the newer hybrid systems. Allot of technical info on solar cells, wiring, batteries, etc, but most of the info as far as completed or integrated home systems is not there or minimal. For example, one of the biggest concerns a homeowner might have is how to actually hook up a solar system into the existing power company breaker box......transfer switch ? sub panel critical load panel? or direct existing panel hook up. ... show more

  • a good intro book on DIY solar projects
A good practical book to learn basics about the solar system components, how to design and plan a new system, and how to calculate the rating of components you will need. It gives some advice on what is good and what is not, without advertising any specific product. I wish it had more examples of real life systems with more specific examples electrical diagrams: a 100W system, a 500W system, a 1000W system... with more exact detail of how the connections are made (buses, circuit breakers, AWG of the wires and connectors). Maybe it can have an online site with more examples and pictures of professionally built systems. Just as a suggestion. I recommend this book. ... show more
