This is an excellent mattress pad. It came in a vacuum sealed bag, so I opened it up, shook it up a little then draped it over a chair. Let it be for 2 days with an occasional shake. Then I washed and dried it. It came out very smooth and fluffy. Now after using it for a week, it is still fluffy and comfortable. I don't think it would offer pain relief, but I expect it will be durable. It is NOT waterproof, which is clearly stated in the description, so reviewers who complained about that, the error is on them. It is a mattress pad, not a pillowy topper. It's just meant to keep the mattress cleaner from skin and hair cells, etc. And that's what it does. ... show more

    • Excellent value - right amount of "fluff"

We have a LoveSac Sactional couch that can be rearranged to make a double bed. They also sell a pricey accompanying set to make it a comfortable bed, but with my own sheets, I figured I could do better my own. I was concerned about the creases & ridges of the couch parts, and thought this would be cushy enough to mask those, without being too pillowy for guests who prefer a firmer mattress. It was perfect. The sides are a poly mix that is very stretchy and fits well. That said, we have a thicker mattress on our bed. I'm not sure how well this would hold up on our thicker mattress as it's deep enough to cover our the sides, but not enough to give a good wrap underneath. Full disclosure - our mattress pad on the thick mattress has built in elastic bands that pull the sides deep in underneath. That said, it fit the "standard" mattress depth easily, and could handle a 6-8" thick mattress. The pillow top is as hoped - firm enough but not too firm, pillowy but not too pillowy, and I liked the squares for keeping the fill in place. It arrived, as most fluffy products, shrink wrapped. I left it out overnight, still folded because I'm lazy. Then I tossed it in the dryer with a dryer sheet and a tennis ball for 15 minutes and it was perfect. My guests were surprised that the "bed" was as comfortable as a regular bed if not a little cozier (we left some of the sides and back supports attached to the couch but removed the side pillows/cushions. I bought this as part of a set with two pillows, and saved $1-2 dollars. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased, and will likely buy this for another bed in our house that gets more regular use - and has a standard thickness mattress. I don't know how well it would wash but I suspect it'd be fine since the squares aren't down. Either way, fluffing it in the dryer should help the fluff stay fluffy. The fluff seems to be a single-piece poly fill in each square, rather than a bunch of down feathers or bits of fill. It's rather like having a mini pillow in each square, if that makes sense. No loose threads, good construction, seems durable, meets our purpose, and a good value. ... show more

TLDR: comfy, fluffyish, and soft. Not cooling as claimed, minus a star. In Depth: Last summer we spent way too much money on an Aireloom mattress. To protect our purchase we had bought a mattress protector that was basically the equivalent of a baby’s crib mattress topper- plasticy on the bottom with not much stretch to it. For the past year I’ve been telling my husband that I can’t believe our mattress hasn’t broken in yet; it still feels way more firm than what we felt at the store. Well, the other day I took the mattress cover off for cleaning and laid down on the bare mattress to see how it felt. Oh my gosh. It was a completely different mattress. So much more plush and comfortable! The mattress protector had been so tight and un-stretchy, it wasn’t allowing us to enjoy the medium-firmness of our pillow top mattress! I immediately threw it out and went to Amazon to search for a 1-day delivery of a new mattress cover- this time one that would move with the flexibility and plushness of the mattress. This one had excellent reviews and a reasonable price tag, so I went ahead and ordered. Upon arrival the next day, I removed it from the shrink wrap and threw it in the dryer on steam refresh. The little pillow pockets puffed up a bit, and I put it on the bed. It didn’t have any bad smells or issues. It fit my deep sided queen size mattress perfectly. Then came the moment of truth. I laid upon the mattress and was overjoyed- the new cover kept the plushness and firmness of the mattress itself! Now, we have slept on it for about a week. It definitely is NOT cooling like the description claimed, and that is a bummer. But, I haven’t noticed any significant heating either. It seems pretty neutral temperature wise. The best part about this is that I didn’t tell my husband that I had replaced the old mattress cover. I wanted to see if he would notice the difference. Within the first few nights he kept commenting, “this bed is sooo comfy!” And “I love this mattress!” Little did we know that we could have been loving it this much for the past year had we had this mattress cover! Get it for the comfy compliment to your current mattress, not for the cooling, and you’ll be happy. **Update a month later: still loving it! I finally told my husband that I had changed out the mattress cover. His response? “No way... I thought that the mattress had finally broken in! I’ve been sleeping SO MUCH better!” Then he showed me his sleep apnea machine, which keeps a record of how many hours he wears his breathing device each night.
