I really like this chuck. Using it on my old 11" Delta lathe. The different jaw sets make it very flexible. There were cheaper chucks available, but I think it's worth spending to get a good one.

Since this came with a variety of jaws I liked this nova chuck so much I purchased a couple more without jaws so I would not have to constantly swap out jaws.

Great item for the price. It offers three different size chuck jaws. However, there is a small gap in each size that is not attainable with the smaller or larger jaws. Not a deal breaker but I thought each set of jaws would grip up to the next size jaws. Very well built and high quality!

I have tried 2 different, less expensive chucks and neither would firmly hold the work piece. I decided to give this Nova chuck a try. I have a full size Jet wood lathe. This chuck is designed for both directions with a set screw (grub screw) that will keep it from coming off of the standard threads on the head-stock shaft when rotating clockwise. My lathe is the standard counter-clockwise, unidirectional, so that feature doesn't benefit me personally. I have used this chuck when turning spindles as small as 13/16" and as large as 2" square and both up to 24" in length (for work pieces of that length when the turned diameter of a center section is less than 3/4", you will want to use a good steady rest - the "PSI Woodworking LSR3 Wood Lathe Steady Rest" is available here on Amazon and is reasonably easy to use once you get used to it). The chuck never loosened turning those projects. It is well balanced and very easy to unwind when you've finished turning your project. The jaw depth is at least 1/2". You will need to add at least that amount to the working-length of the work piece to be turned. With the less expensive, non-Nova chucks, I had to stop and re-tighten every few minutes. Who needs that frustration? At least, consider buying this Nova. I don't think that you'll regret it. ... show more
