We have had a regular mercury thermometer for years, but it takes so long for it to register the temperature it is a big pain in the neck. This thermometer is accurate and reads the temperature almost instantaneously. It is very convenient and comes with a nice storage bag. This is the most accurate thermometer I've had in my life. I'm always 98.6 and my husband is 97.9 and those are the numbers it consistently gives us.
