  • Excellent camera!
Color: Black Style: w/ 18-140mm VR Lens Set: Base
This camera, although it would be considered “dated” by younger generations of photographers, is still very much a powerhouse and a must have for anyone wanting to take photos in a variety of situations! This is a step up from the previous DSLR I owned so there is a small learning curve for me as far as the features. I also consider it a step up from the z50 mirrorless I own. While mirrorless is lighter weight, there are situations where it just isn’t capable of doing what I need. The real test for this D7500 will be marching season during halftime shows, but as of so far, I’m impressed! The 18-140 lens is truly an excellent lens! It is able to zoom in and out as I need in all situations I’ve used it so far. Very fast auto focus and I love that I can easily switch to manual on the lens itself without fiddling with settings on the camera. This significantly lowers the risk of me missing a photo opportunity because I’m looking for a setting in the camera menu. Sturdy body. This does add weight to the camera but honestly I feel like that isn’t a bad thing. I started my photography journey with an SLR with no auto focus and black & white film in HS. I learned to develop the film and photos myself. The features and options on this camera are truly amazing and I still have a lot to learn about it, but so far I’m impressed! I’ve always been a Nikon girl and they continue to provide excellent photography cameras and lenses! *photo taken at my local Memorial Day ceremony. This pup was super fast and I took several photos in quick succession to get the one shown on the review here. The D7500 didn’t hesitate, focused quickly and I was able to take this picture. The owners were thrilled when I posted it on the local page as they had yet to get a good pic of their new pup :) ... show more

  • It's a good upgrade from D7000
Color: Black Style: Body Set: Base
I've had the D7000 since 2011 and always found it hit or miss as far as focus goes. Spent a lot of time taking pictures of brick walls, angled rulers and focus charts trying to dial in AF fine tune. I got it as good as I could and could get sharp photos out of it but at times regardless of all that I'd get some images that were off or just overall seemed soft. At the time the D7000 was considered a good low light camera but I found this is where it struggled with focus the most. I was a bit disappointed to see the D7500 dropped to a single SD card slot and no longer incorporated magnesium in the frame construction. For those reasons I tried to pickup a new D7200 but apparently missed the boat and none were to be had (aside from refurb or import). Ultimately I caved in and went with the D7500 as the D500 is a good chunk of extra money and would require an external flash. I don't abuse things I own so magnesium frame components aren't a necessity to me and though dual card slots would be nice also aren't a necessity. I haven't had a card go bad ever and I'm not a professional photographer so I don't require the redundancy. If I were making profit from my photos I would be paying more for the body with dual card slots. I don't agree with the statements that the D7500 is a step back from the D7200, it's more like a diagonal step forward. There are improvements that have been made that make it better than a D7200 but it has moved in a different direction than the D7000, 7100 and 7200 previous models. It is now the advanced consumer camera the D7xxx line was meant to be rather than the lite version of a professional model. Overall I'm very pleased with it and glad I got it instead of a D7200. I don't have the focus issues I saw with the D7000 and the low light performance is vastly superior to that of the D7000. It also has full support for the new AF-P lenses which I picked up a refurb 18-55 vr for a very low price. The focus speed of the AF-P lenses is near instant and for video has no detectable noise unlike the AF-S that make ridiculously loud noise while slowly dialing in to focus that is picked up by the built-in camera microphone. I also found the AF-P lens to take incredibly sharp photos which kind of surprised me since it's a "cheap" plastic mount kit lens. ... show more

  • Great pictures
Color: Black Style: w/ 18-140mm VR Lens Set: Base
After 40 years as a Pentax user I finally had to give up after two K70 cameras failed due to bad AF solenoids. Have used Nikon binoculars for many years so I migrated to Nikon and chose the D7500 with an 18-140mm lens. Still getting used to the camera, it has a different ‘feel’ after the Pentax, but I’m impressed with the picture quality. The lens is certainly heavier than I’ve been used to, but so far the auto focus has worked flawlessly, resulting in a sharpness to the pictures that has been difficult to capture in the past. Despite taking photos and videos for over 60 years, the myriad of settings is intimidating, but the ‘point and shoot’ option will probably suffice in most instances. ... show more

  • Great camera for the money
Color: Black Style: Body Set: Base
I love this camera. Many years ago, I started off with a Nikon D40X, then upgraded to a D5100, and I now have upgraded to the D7500, and I wish I would have upgraded much sooner! If you are on the fence about upgrading...do it! Do it now! I love the focus and speed of this camera. I thoroughly researched the different options before making this purchase. I discovered I wasn't ready to upgrade to a full frame...I have too many crop sensor lenses, and I cannot afford to upgrade to a full frame camera AND buy new glass too. I then considered the D500, but it was too expensive, and it didn't have any additional features that I needed. I'm very pleased with the D7500. The 51 focus points, 15 being cross sensors, really allow me to capture exceptional portraits, and the tracking capabilities allows me to snap shots of my 7 and 10 year old while they are playing baseball, football, and hockey. Also, the speed is fantastic! I seldom find myself stopping to wait for the camera to catch up. I love that the aperture and the shutter speed have dedicated dials...this makes it easy to adjust them quickly. I also find changing the white balance, metering, and ISO to be much easier...no more going to the main menu to adjust settings! The only thing I am slightly disappointed in is this camera's low light capabilities. Many reviews I read talked about this camera's exceptionable low light capabilities and how there is little grain even with a high ISO, but I find many of my photos are grainy in low light situations. Overall, I love this camera! ... show more
