Nikon COOLPIX P950 Digital Camera Overview: Characterized by its expansive zoom, the Nikon COOLPIX P950 Digital Camera, is a versatile compact camera offering a unique mixture of stills and video capabilities along with reach to photograph even the most distant of subjects. I have a nikon p900 and my husband wanted a 950. This camera takes amazing photos. It has a small sensor, same as the 900, but we wanted a camera specifically for nature shots and this does a great job. The image stabilization is a big help as it can get a bit hard to control at full zoom and we don't want to carry around a tripod. changing scenes, going from AF to MF, it's very easy to use. I owned a p900 and it was great. Bought the p950 when I bring the p900 and it wasn't available for sale anywhere. When I look through the viewfinder on the p950 and press the button to focus everything in the viewfinder gets really light and then when you take the picture the pictures okay it's normal lighting. But you never can get a clear picture if you're more than 20 ft away. Very disappointed. It was a waste of money. ... show more

    • Not the best birding camera
Having lost my Canon SX-60, I purchased the Nikon P900. Everything said about the zoom capabilities is true, as it is excellent at long-range photography. I used it in the mountains of North Carolina. Having said that, I must point out it's Achilles heel. The Manual Focus feature is not easy to use, not intuitive and certainly extremely slow. For birding or astronomy, it is useless. By the time you can slowly scroll up in MF (the side lever or the circular ring, as both can be set) the bird will be long gone. And this is a problem as the autofocus will invariably focus on something other than what is in the center of the frame. Although crystal clear through the rangefinder, as soon as you press the button it thinks and then sets it out of focus. Nearly every time. Tonight, trying to get a picture of Saturn and Jupiter close together (600 years till this close again), the autofocus, even though these were the only two points in the sky, would take a clear Saturn with rings and bloom it into an orange circle. Trying to set it on manual focus, I spent two minutes trying to get it to zoom out and manually focus. The steps it takes go from about 500m to infinity, with infinity defined as beyond the orbit of Jupiter. Very frustrating. ... show more
