Cool toy! So what I don't like about this is with out it's IR light it really doesn't amplify light like a true night vision optic. Dark outside with IR off, you see nothing. You can't use this inside to look outside in the dark as the IR is reflected back from the windows. I don't see any way to helmet mount it for paintball or just hands free night hiking. Some people like the idea of hands free headlamps, and this doesn't really support that. It has a weird rubber cap on both the front lens that you focus with, and the back viewing area that is like a small TV screen. Getting used to front lens focus is kind of weird. (I've got one of the russian monoculars and used PVS7s back in the 90s while in the military). Ok! So that being said this thing is pretty good quality for what it is, and it works to light up the night. It works in color during the day light and black & white at night. It will also work with an IR flashlight. Green gives me a headache so this is better with simple B&W! You also don't have to worry about burning things up by not having a sun cover over the lens. The third picture shows my wife's guitar during the day a few feet away. I took it outside tonight and played with it in the dark -I can see things at around 100 yards away easy with this monocular. It can be plugged in and recharged (with a indicator light with green for full battery), or the battery can be removed and recharged in a cradle that came with the monocular. The distance this works is better then my little Russian one. This has a rugged rubber armor on it, but I'd doubt it would hold up to a heavy rain...I'm going to have to play more with the record feature and pull the SD card and move it to PC to play videos recorded. These are all cool features the russian unit doesn't have. So I'm going to say this is way better than the russian stuff. This would be good for people who like to see what's creeping around at night but it's not military grade and your face is going to be showing using this little TV screen so it's something to keep in mind that if you can see your subject they can likely see you too! Good features, might be useful. This would be really cool for getting video of critters (and it has a lower mount so it could be screwed on to a tripod!) while sitting out in a stand somewhere just for fun. Like other reviewers said, you can't hold it directly to your eye even though the piece looks like it should mold well to your face. That being said, when you hold it in front of your eye the screen is bright so it's not something you should be using outside at night if your goal is to remain unseen. The zoom works well. The buttons take a bit to get used to, but once you understand the controls it's more fun to use. Fun, probably for the kids, works decently, and good price. ... show more

Screen for it is extremely bright and clear for what it is. It looks fairly cheap but the performance is great for the price. It’s not quite as easy to use but once you get the hang of where the buttons are it becomes really easy to use.     • Cannot hold to the eye
The media could not be loaded. The night vision for sure works, and the magnification works without much distortion. It zooms up to 6x and is pretty easy to use. The modes are easy to figure out, and the instruction written on the nightvision itself is very helpful for in the field troubleshooting and instructions. A big issue for using this that needs to be addressed is if you are hunting at last shooting light, or are looking before first shooting light for deer movement, you wont be able to hide the screen light because you have to hold the eyepiece about 6 inches away just to see the screen clearly. If they fixed this one issue, I’d buy it at this price all day long. Outside of this issue, it works exactly as advertised and is great for night and day use. It shows very clear at night and the brightness can even be adjusted while using infrared for nightvision. If the screen was deeper inset inside of the monocular, it would fix this issue and this would be amazing at this price. ... show more

I really wasn't sure what to expect when I tried these out. It feels pretty lightweight so I was thinking Jurassic Park -"Are they heavy? Then they're expensive..." Going through the menu, there is a ton of adjustments and features to mess with. It takes a bit to understand the controls since each of the 4 buttons have more than one thing they control. Once you get it, its pretty cool. Take stills or video. It has 32 Gb SD card and it comes with a special thumbdrive reader for the card. It uses a standard Rechargable 18650 lithium cell that can be charged in the included charger or in the camera if you hook the USB cable to a power pack. The night vision is pretty amazing. Yes it needs the IR light, but still has good range and you can see a lot. The 7 different IR levels didn't really change that much from strongest to weakest. The Zoom goes from 1 to 7 as well and that works well. For the price, it's got lot of features and the accessories are appreciated. ... show more

Fun gadget to fool around with or spot critters in you yard. At this price it feels a little cheap. A bit confusing to operate. The zoom feature is minimal. You need the right conditions for a clear view. It works and is fun but just so-so.
