  • Fast & easy set up
Style: 2 Gbps
Was really to set up, I just called my internet service provider (wow!) and gave them the MAC address on the bottom of the device. It has significantly increased my network speed! No complaints and works great so far.

  • Works great with Xfinity
Style: 2 Gbps
I don't like renting the Xfinity cable modem, so I purchased this one. It iw very easy to set up and works great. I also hooked up a cable surge suppressor from spikes, as well as a surge protector/battery backup.

  • Get a proper setup….
Style: 2 Gbps
Interestingly, after I purchased this and called the Internet company for set up, this thing did not really work well. It was connected to my Wi-Fi router, but the signal kept dropping all the time, which was very frustrating. I called Netgear support and told them, and they helped me set it up…. Or so I thought. However, we still had tons of connectivity problems. I had to call back a second time to get help. At that time it was mentioned to me that I could get Netgear phone support for about $25 for two years… so, I opted to get it. They probably set the poor support up, initially, so people will subscribe. But, oh well. After the second call to Netgear, we still continued to have problems…. So I called the special cust. service number they gave me. Interestingly, you get what you pay for. When I called this special number, now that I was a subscribed customer, I got a far-superior level of technical support. Come to find out the previous people lied to me, saying my Netgear router was up to date. The guy that I dealt with took care of everything… i mean everything. He changed the an amazing amount of options, and went over everything with a fine tooth comb.. turns out my router was so far out of date, he had to do about 20 updates manually to catch it up. my Internet is now flawless and stays connected all the time. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY NETGEAR PRODUCTS OR ASURION PROTECTION PLANS
Style: 2 Gbps
I have had issues with my Nighthawk router & modem since day one. My internet will just drop out of nowhere and my wifi signal is crap despite the fact that I live in a tiny studio apartment. It goes through phases of how bad this will get but at its worst it'll happen multiple times a day. I have to wait several minutes to half an hour and then it'll eventually come back. I work from home and do live streaming, conference calls, etc. as so many of us do nowadays, so you can imagine how bad it is to have an internet that randomly drops out and cannot be brought back manually (turning off/on or unplugging doesn't work, I literally just have to wait it out) is for me and I'm sure so many others. The wifi even when available is always sluggish and unreliable despite me having a faster-than-necessary internet plan and, again, living in a tiny apartment (I sit mere feet from my router/modem). Although I did a ton of research, I wish I had actually looked up Netgear on the Better Business Bureau (not that we should have to go that far as consumers). If I had, and I recommend you do before purchasing, you would see a) that they have a 1 out of 5 star rating, and b) that the router dropping internet/wifi is an extremely common issue that they are well aware of and yet they keep selling these expensive faulty pieces of equipment anyway, making it as much of a hassle to get a refund as humanly possible. Seriously: DO NOT BUY. I got the Asurion protection plan and when I first called to file a claim, they said I had to wait until my internet dropped AGAIN to call back and then they would file the claim. So, I had to wait until it dropped during business hours to call back and quickly realized this was a total scam to make me wait to file a claim. On top of that, they are only refunding the cost before tax, and are only refunding me for the router, the modem is supposedly on a "different" type of plan where they have to service it first to see if anything is wrong with it, which tells me they know the router is messed up. I don't know if anything is wrong with the modem, so I may be stuck with a modem I don't need and can't use (I have given up and just gotten a modem/router from my internet provider, hoping then at least they'll have to provide me with some level of tech support!), making the money I spent on that a complete waste. It makes me sick to think of the headaches I've had with this equipment and how hundreds of my much-needed dollars are going to be wasted by this scam. On top of all of this. the protection plan just gives you an Amazon gift card, you don't even get your #%$&@!^ money back. If you do buy this, make sure to return it within the window at the first sign of ANY problem. I was convinced it was a problem with my service provider because, certainly, this crazy-expensive equipment I just bought couldn't be the issue. By the time I realized it was, it was too late and I thought I was fine because I had these protection plans. But the protection plan is a total ripoff and will not fully protect you even if it is obvious and provable that the equipment is faulty. I cannot stress enough to not buy any of this garbage. Unfortunately, I don't know what might be better, I hear a lot of the older routers are more reliable and still work well, but as we move to faster speeds we seem to be in a wasteland of crap equipment and b.s. support. ... show more

  • Activated on xfinity and wifi router connected is working but unexpected issue
Style: 2 Gbps
I activated this modem on my existing xfinity account fairly easily with the xfinity android phone app and xfinity account login. The fast TP-Link wifi router I connected to it is working great and much faster than the xfinity wifi. I first set up the wifi router using the xfinity modem and it worked that way too. I noticed later that on the box it says that the xfinity speed supported for this modem is only 800mbps, but the xfinity compatible routers page states that this modem supports 1Gbps xfinity speed. The unexpected issue is that anything else I have plugged in to the other ethernet ports on the modem do not get an internet connection. The main wifi router connection does work though and the port lights up green on the modem but the other devices light up amber (the other devices do work connected to the wifi router ethernet ports). Tech support and documentation say that an amber light means it is a 10 or 100 mbps connection. Tech support rep said the connection "should work" but nothing will connect to the internet if the light is amber for that ethernet port on the modem(she is wrong, it is not a router or multi lan connect device). Documentation does not say either way but diagram on box shows picture of router, computer, or "compatible routers" connected to the ethernet ports, but nothing is explicitly stated. My computer did connect to the modem's ethernet port and got access to the admin setting page for the modem, but even a second brand new wifi router I have would not get a green light or internet connection, and a Roku ultra didn't work (would not connect to internet). Other than that, and no clear info in documentation on the ports issue, features or specifications, the modem works as indicated, but it is basically working as a 1 port modem with the option of technical set up using the other ports for a single port function. Again, it is a modem with no router functionality, i.e. no multi-port lan connect functionality. Just a side note that nothing on my xfinity accounts billing has updated after the netgear modem activation and there is nothing on my xfinity account to return the xfinity modem so I will have to call them to remove the $15/mo for that and an appointment or return code to return it to them. Update: I called them and they essentially just did a new service plan without the modem, but with the other discounts for the 1 year contract renewal. There was no return code or anything provided, she just said to take the modem and power cord to UPS, they scan the bar code on it box it and return it to xfinity per their agreement with comcast and I did that. It takes "up to 2 weeks" for them to receive it, process it and remove it from your account billing - it was 2 days in my case. ... show more
