Innovative Roast-Ryte™ Technology uses infrared heating elements to evenly cook a turkey. The center heating element cooks from the inside out as the outer heating elements rotate heat around the turkey, maintaining the moisture on the inside while searing the skin to a golden-brown on the outside. This oil-free, easy-to-use vertical roaster can cook up to an 18-lb. bird in less than two hours, reducing cooking times by up to 40% versus a conventional oven. You’ll never have to worry about overcooking your bird, as the easy-to- read control panel has a digital timer as well as a preprogrammed 120-minute turkey setting with auto-off function. Illuminated lights indicate when the heating elements are on and cycling and the glass cover allows for convenient viewing during use without removing the lid and letting heat escape. Removable and dish washer safe, the cooking stand drip tray collects all unwanted turkey drippings and the interior surface is nonstick making clean-up quick. I think that the fact that Amazon was all sold out of this roaster before Thanksgiving, speaks to the word-of-mouth going around. We've done two turkeys and both of them came out perfect. It is a little clumsy to get the turkey in but it's something that will come with practice. All the drippings collect in a dish at the bottom. I usually wait till the next day to clean it out, so it gels a little before taking it out of the unit. It's so much better than having to clean an oven and a roasting pan! The first time I cooked a turkey in it, i had forgotten about the 18 lb limit and bought a 22 pounder. <sigh> We DID put it in the roaster, being careful not to let the sides or wings touch the heating elements on the inside of the roaster. (We tied the wings to the bird.) I set the timer for 2.5 hours and the turkey came wonderful. However, I was dangerously close to the drip pan overflowing and couldn't get it out without spilling... but that was my fault. Second time I had an 18 pound turkey and removing the pan wasn't such an issue. ... show more

We did both chickens and turkey. Both were tender and delicious. So easy, and there are no moving parts. The heat turns on and off instead of rotating. We got a chicken plucker so we quit wasting so much on our chickens. I was NOT about to pluck chickens all day! Now we have awesome, home grown rotisserie chicken whenever we want. Fast, easy, very little mess. Very happy customer. The only negative is the size limitation on turkey. Next year, we are getting 2 turkeys so we can freeze more leftovers. ----------------------Update after more than 2 years This unit gets used all the time. It's the only way I do chicken anymore. If I want something with more sauce, I do it here first, then finish it in the pressure cooker for a few minutes with sauce. I couldn't be happier, and have had no issues at all with performance, cleanup, nothing. Love it. ... show more

I bought this vertical roaster mostly for TG turkey. For years I've roasted my bird in an 18qt electric roaster because roasting it in the oven was always a desiccated disaster. The bird comes out wonderfully moist and tender in the roaster but the skin is a dismal grey. I missed the golden crisp skin of an oven roasted bird. Stumbled across the Nesco vertical roaster and was intrigued. I read numerous positive reviews and decided to give it a try. I performed the burn off per the instructions. I roasted my 14.7lb TG turkey per the roasting instructions that came with the Nesco roaster. It turned out beautifully brown but a little over done. As with any new appliance there is a bit of a learning curve. Next time around I will cut the time back to 5 mins/lb. Can't wait to try it with a roasting chicken! Took one star off due to the finicky nature of the on/off switch. The switch is actually a little below the indicated location on the touch pad so you have to fiddle with it a bit to turn on the roaster. ... show more

Worked super for one turkey. Waited 1 hour to put second bird in, pushed power switch, control panel did not come on. One of the three outer heating elements came on . Stayed that way no matter what I tried.

We got this before Christmas as we always fry our turkeys but the thermistor was broken on our fryer. With the price of peanut oil going up the way it has, we decided this was a good time to try this out and the reviews were definitely encouraging. This thing was AWESOME! We live in Texas and are not that equipped for cold weather, so the ability to cook inside the house was a major bonus with the cold snap we had over Christmas weekend this year. But the turkey came out perfect, in just about 2 hours! For full disclosure, I always brine my turkey in the days leading up to cooking and then inject it before frying. But it was incredibly juicy, cooked evenly through, etc. My 6 yo who claims she "doesn't like turkey" asked for a second helping and happily ate leftovers too. Even the white meat was perfectly tender. Considering there is no need for fuel or peanut oil, this is an absolute steal! I haven't yet tried it with ribs or whole chickens, but that is on my list for sure! If you are considering changing from a propane fryer to electric, I would 100% recommend this one! ... show more

I have had an 18-quart Nesco electric roaster for years and had no desire for another appliance in my kitchen. I also have a vertical rotisserie, but it's too small to fit a turkey. This is the perfect size. It will fit up to an 18-pound, and I usually get a 12-15 pound bird. To test it, I roasted a chicken. The owners manual said 8 minutes per pound for a whole chicken. My chicken was 5.15 pounds so 45 minutes was spot on. I was surprised at how easy it was to clean. After I cleaned it, I put it up on a shelf and will use it a lot, especially for poultry. When I think about how much time this saves vs a conventional oven, and time is money, I'm very pleased with its cost and performance. Imagine, 6 minutes per pound for an 18 pound turkey is 108 minutes (1 hour 43 minutes) vs 270 minutes (4 hours 30 minutes ) for a conventional oven. That's three hours of energy being used. The first time I loaded the 17.5 pound turkey onto the turkey rack it fit well. As soon as I tried the lift the turkey assembly up up to put it into the cooker the bottom part of the heating element cover could not hold the weight and bent so it went through the bottom rack and the turkey dropped with the bottom rack. I tried several times with the same result. Finally I used two pliers to bent the bottom out (As seen in the photo) and was able to pick up the turkey and place it in the cooker after I removed the wings. The wings were touching the elements so I had to cut them off. (Not a problem since no one ate the wings anyway) The turkey cooked well and was done about the right time it was supposed to. (About 2 hours) Hopefully I can get a replacement heating element cover that is made of a better material that can withstand the weight of the turkey ... show more
