  • Great combination of features
Style: LT32
I probably own too many tripods, but I'm consistently on the hunt for the 'ideal' tripod. I started out with the Peak Design tripod -- although, I opted for the alumnium version. I'm pretty heavily invested in Peak Design hardware and have a lot of their mounts so finding something that is compatible with a Peak Design mount is a requirement. The Peak Design is great from a compactness standpoint, and the rotating ball head and control is great. However, I wasn't willing to pay the $$$ for the carbon fiber, and one of the biggest critiques of the Peak Design approach is that there's no pan mode. Next, I picked up a Ulanzi Zero Y -- this one is carbon fiber, offers a pan capability, has a similar profile to the Peak Design, so it's super portable. It does work with the peak design mount, but it only locks the plate in place on one axis, so if you aren't careful, the camera could theoretically slip out or come loose in the mount along the non-secured axis. There are lots of ways to compensate for this, but when you have a nice camera and lens on the tripod, it's something you should not have to worry about. The mount on this is also not a quick release so it relies on the screw for tension. On the plus side, it offers many of the same capabilities as the Peak Design tripod along with mount points for accessories, AND, you can pan with it. So, why buy the Neewer? Well, for one, the price is exceptional. Neewer comes in cheaper than both Ulanzi and Peak Design by a long margin. The quality of build is great - the clips on the leg are made of metal (far better than the plastic clips that break over time with usage). The Neewer comes with a quick mount that works really well with the Peak Design mount, albeit, with some limitations. The quick release is super secure and motion is restricted in all directions. The one downside is that the mount will not necessarily work with other arca style mounts that can have a wider footprint. This is not an issue for me, but just something to call out. The ballhead stem is also slightly different than the other manufacturers. Neewer's stem is round -- the advantage of that is you can actually pan the camera by just loosening the stem lock (although the stem can't be extended when doing this). It was a nice 'feature' to discover. Other than that, the Neewer checks all the boxes -- the carbon fiber material reduces the weight, it has the quick mount, it has the quick positioning ball head, has accessory mount points and much more! ... show more

  • Great Carbon travel tripod!
Style: LT32
Over the years, I have gone down many a tripod rabbit holes seeking out the best in class on a budget. All things considered, the Neewer LT32 met all my criteria for what my current needs are for landscape and astrophotography. Lightweight, carbon fiber, sturdy legs that have been tested in some light to moderate winds, as well as some real nice ergonomic and design features that separate this tripod from others in the same category. The main two competitors being the Peak Design travel tripod and the Ulanzi x Coman F38/Zero Y tripod are each similar in design and have their own pros/cons. Honestly, I typically buy Peak design for everything, but the price difference was just too great, even for the aluminum version. The one con I initially had with this tripod is the ball head accepts only square arca brackets, not allowing for L-bracket access. I have since switched from a Sony A7R2 to a A7C2 and with the reduction in weight, portrait layout maintains sturdiness with flipping the ball head 90 degrees. Neewer does include a ball head adapter for any ball head of your liking, but I do like this one as I have gotten used to it. I also purchased 2 small rig 1/4” thread adapters and mounted it with a neewer phone/device mount that I have my travel charger connecting power to my body for longer Astro shoots (see photo). Anyway, great form factor and lightweight but maintains good stability. Perfect addition to my bag. ... show more

  • Sturdy and light with a sub-par ball head
Style: LT32
There is a lot to like about the tripod: it is light and sturdy, easy to set up and use. But there are aspects that made me doubt that I'd be happy in the long run. I have been looking for a carbon fiber travel tripod for a long time. I am used to heavy gear for studio work, and I certainly did not expect rock solid performance, just enough to hold and keep my camera stable and straight. I was pleasantly surprised by its solidity and how well it handled the weight of my camera. So, I took the tripod on a trip to Chicago for some long exposures of the L. At home, and right out of the box, all was fine. The camera (Sony a7IV with a Sigma 24-70/2.8 II) sits well on the tripod. The image you see here was taken in a different environment. Cold winds were blowing, cooling down all metal parts quickly. The button that releases the plate got quite stiff, which made operating the head difficult. When moving around and changing locations, I had a hard time clicking the camera with the plate into the tripod. It was very fiddly. When I turned the camera into portrait position, it started sliding, requiring tightening of the fiddly little screw with numb fingers. I have not come across that issue with my other tripods, and it might just have been that specific situation. I am aware that I could replace the ball head and/or the plate, but if a tripod has one, it should function well. Overall, I'd say that the tripod works very well in 90% of all situations. I might have been outside of that range, affecting my sense of how reliable the tripod works. ... show more
