  • Works great with less hassle
After reading up on DEET vs picaridin, went with picaridin for my trip to mosquitoland because I don't like how DEET ruins your plastic gear. This worked fantastic and I didn't mind putting it on because the scent is mild, it wasn't greasy, and it stayed put with one application. I put it on over sunscreen and both worked. Not a single bite on areas that I sprayed, but others in my group were eaten alive. It leaves a slight sheen on your skin - no big deal. Very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Works great
I took this on a trip to island of Palawan Philippines. The mosquitoes left me alone. Worked as described

  • Works great and is natural.
I bought this product for a trip to San Juan Puerto Rico in August, where the Zika virus was the most concentrated. I did A LOT of research on the different chemicals in other sprays and repellents and really didn't want a DEET based spray or lotion, regardless of the % of concentration. I used the CDC's recommendations to find this product with 20% picaridin, a natural substance, and not a lot of other junk in the spray. I also researched and made homemade natural repellent with essential oils in case I didn't like the feel of the spray. I cannot say that I wasn't bitten, because I was, at least three times during the week that I was there. Also, I didn't use this product and then go off into the deep forests. But, I did a lot of walking outside and in the main parts of San Juan, including their downtown areas for at least 2 days. I did use my homemade spray, but I used this more because it has a much less offensive order than the citronella and lemongrass. This product isn't greasy or heavy and doesn't run when you sweat. It's small size is perfect for a purse or light travel, including the plane at less than 3.5oz. I thought it worked well enough that I keep it with me so I can use it when I do my community gardening work. Compared to the homemade stuff, it really worked about the same, but smelled much better. ... show more

  • Awesome bug spray-works deep woods
I have been using Natural for six years as my go-to hiking spray. Excellent product that works extremely well even when sweating. And it's not sticky. So glad to have found this bug spray that is also a great tick repellent.

  • It works!
Bugs love me but apparently hate this stuff. So no bites. Have recommended to friends and family.

  • This is your DEET-free replacement, right here
The wife and I used this stuff exclusively on our trip to Africa. My wife attracts bug bites like crazy, so she started out by using stronger DEET stuff and "topping up" every now and then with this stuff. After a while, she stopped with the DEET and switched to this stuff exclusively. I used no DEET while over there, and used only this stuff. I sprayed this stuff on over top of my clothes - it did not hurt any of my clothing that I could tell. Even to this day I don't see any damage. (And the DEET did destroy some of my wife's clothes.) While we were in Africa during the low time for mosquitoes, I can say that I personally did not get even one bug bite. My wife did get one (in South Africa). That speaks volumes for this product. Normally, she would be eaten alive and I would get a couple. We were diligent about applying and came through with flying colors. I would expect this would work just as well during the high mosquito months - one just might have to apply it more often is all. If you are looking for something that is DEET free and works, this is what you want. It worked great for us! ... show more

  • Healthier option to DEET and works on Colorado mosquitos
I did a lot of reading and it looks like Picaridin is a bit safer than DEET and will not damage your gear with the chemicals. My son and I used it on a Colorado hammock backpacking trip without mosquito netting. It seemed to work, and helped us smell better. I am not sure how well it would work in areas invested with very aggressive mosquitos like what I have heard exist in Canada. This product does not repel Texas chiggers like DEET does, and may not stop an aggressive infestation of mosquitos. The CDC has information online you can use to help you choose a product, including safety information, that clearly shows that one needs to be more careful about DEET on skin. The Natrapel spray is fine, but I think I prefer the individually wrapped wet wipes for backpacking trips. ... show more

  • Survived the Thai jungle
I just bought a second bottle, after the first got us through a few days in northern Thailand. One full day (we re-applied midday) was spent hiking in the jungle with rescued elephants. The poor things were constantly hounded by horseflies, but we were totally fine. Two adults liberally applying for four uses went through about half of the 3.4 ounces. We generally travel without checking bags, so this size is perfect for TSA’s 3-1-1. Don’t be fooled by the Natrapel name—Picaridin is not a “natural” substance. Both it and DEET are chemicals with indeterminate long-term health and environmental effects. However, as a physician, I decided to switch from DEET when I learned that some DEET is cleared renally. That is, it’s absorbed through skin and shows up in your urine. Although this hasn’t been shown to be problematic for health, it just doesn’t seem right. Although DEET has gotten me through many a fishing or camping trip, my other concern is that it eats away gear. If it can erode my GPS screen and sunglasses, it can’t be good on its way out of my body. One thing to watch out for—Natrapel can be slippery. The tile floor of our hotel room entryway got pretty slick after we sprayed our legs there. ... show more
