My kid could be the ultimate tester for bug sprays. She could step in and out of the door and have gotten a mosquito bite that will swell to the circumference of a baseball. I've never even seen what oak mite bites look like before she got them. And as any parent concerned with the long term health of their children, I've tried a bunch of non DEET sprays. This one has worked amazingly. Recently, this spray was put to the ultimate test. My daughter started school this month and at her school they have 10 acres and a creek they visit frequently. Additionally, my daughter's class opens out to a lawn that is right next to a less full portion of the creek. I remember seeing it and thinking oh no, standing water. So I dropped the ball on the first day of school and did not explicitly tell the staff that she absolutely has to have bug spray on before going outside. The practice is to pass the class bug spray around to the kids and if they don't want to put it on, they don't have to. Well, I guess she didn't put any on or the class spray was not going to cut it because she came home and had no fewer than 30 bites along her stomach, groin area, legs, arm pits, head. Everywhere. I put the Badger after balm on. At 130am, she woke me up asking me to reapply the after balm. It wasn't cutting it. She couldn't get back to sleep and I didn't have any allergy meds in the house. So I gave her the option to try to get some sleep or go to the store for medicine. She chose medicine. So from 130am-430am, her and I were up trying to make her bug bites manageable enough for her to sleep. The next day, I explained to the school in detail that it's not optional for her to use bug spray (and I think she learned her lesson here too) and I showed them her Badger spray in her book bag so that they could make sure she used it. The spray that it comes in is fine, but I poured it out because I wanted to upgrade it. Quite surprised when I found out that half the product I paid for was water. But it did say water in the ingredients so… Always shake well, the oil and water separates rather quickly when not in use. I’m beginning to think that it didn’t work for people who gave it bad reviews because they didn’t shake well. It has a plenty strong smell. It works for me to deter certain bugs for a short while before it gets sweated, wiped, or washed off. I sprayed it onto a glass window that gets daily sunlight, it’s been months and the droplets still haven’t evaporated so I gather that it’s got lasting power (although the effectiveness have worn off). ... show more

I get eaten alive by mosquitos while everyone else around me remains unbitten. I tried this out on the 4th of July, covered myself head to toe in it before going outside at night to hang out by the grill. It works! I didn't get a single bite! I was so happy. I reeked of lemon though, people could smell it on me. And at a certain point, smelling the lemon scent so strongly for so long was a little nauseating. Maybe I over-did it though when I sprayed myself down, cause I was so desperate not to be eaten up again by the 'squitos and didn't want to leave any piece of skin uncovered by the spray. Bug spray almost always smells a bit though, so you accept that downfall when using it and it's worth it to not be bitten. I'll be using this all summer, and I'm happy to have a deet free solution! :) ... show more

Mosquitos here at camp are about fixing to carry us off these days. The dragon flies are late this year. This spray arrived early this week, along with the mother load of baked-in pyrethrin clothing. Spray exposed flesh with this. It's clear the mosquitos don't like it. Blackflies are still around sprayed areas, but not biting. Haven't seen a tick since wearing the pesticide duds, so can't say what it does for them. Also, the dogs HATE it. But it seems great with mosquitos and it has lasting power with the oil base.
