I am still not sure that I installed it correctly because it is not very bright and it is on the highest flame setting. My picture is deceiving because I was very close to the fireplace and I added 3 bright tea lights, 2 orange and 1 blue for extra light and effects. In reality it is nowhere near that bright. For the price I shouldn't have to fix the brightness issue. I replaced a vented log set so I realize and am not comparing apples to apples but am also not sending energy up the chimney and wasting it which is important to me. The set looks realistic & works for what I need as I didn't want to use gas or wood in this real masonry fireplace/chimney. My main complaint is that they need to add more LEDs to make it brighter because in my case I have a large viewing area which is nice and is something you don't get in most gas inserts and I'd like to been able to really highlight it more with a blazing effect that I can control. It would have been nice to have labeled the logs for placement & the directions were not very helpful. I had to look at pictures of it to figure out how it goes, but it really wasn't that difficult. The grate is plastic and at first mine looked like it was broken or coming apart but once assembled you cant tell. I think it could have been improved for a better value, but if you look at what is available with heat this set is about the best you can get. The effect is more subtle and it is growing on me.     • Fan motor works intermittingly.

Easy set up and the flame looks real. Heating is adjustable and adequate for 1500 watts. However after about 6 weeks the fan motor would not always start. It would make a buzzing sound and had to be shut off and restarted, normally that would allow the motor to run but not always. I contacted the factory and they said to send them a picture which I did. They responded and said to take it back to the dealer for repair, that's difficult since its Amazon! When I told them it was Amazon they said to call an electrician and they would work with them. Trying to get an electrician that normally only does house wiring to make a house call was impossible. I asked if they would just send me a new motor that I would install since their warranty covers parts and they refused. We have their gas fireplace unit and are very pleased with it but I do not recommend their electric unit. Very disappointed because this was not a lower cost unit. ... show more

I like the look of this unit, and it was very easy to install, but the heat output is barely a breath. I have a heat pump HVAC system that warms my home quite adequately. I bought this fireplace insert for aesthetic reasons – to add a flickering flame and ambiance – but I expected part of that cozy ambience to be a little bit extra heat. I have to stand one foot away from the unit to feel heat at all. The bricks on the hearth right in front of it stay cold to the touch. My cats love heat so much, they lay on our heating vents, but the Napoleon puts out such negligible heat, the cats don't even register it. I wish I could return it. I feel like I wasted my money. :-( ... show more

    • Dont buy it for the heat!

My wife and I were very excited when we received the log set. It came packaged very well and everything was well protected during shipping. Unpacking and installing didn't take long and I had it up and running in no time. Installed it during day light hours so when it came time to turn the fire log set on it just looked "okay" during those hours. The set looks looks much better in a dark room. I have a real fireplace in my family room and use the fireplace often as the family room is an extra room that doesn't have venting from the furnace so it needs to be heated with a supplemental heat source. Point being I know what a real fire is supposed to look like and while in a dark room at night it looks okay its not gonna fool the average person. The dancing flames in the back and the glowing embers look pretty good. The company did a good job on the details so kudos for that. My one complaint and ultimately the reason I sent it back is that the unit doesn't do an effective job of heating up the room. Bottom line was the blower is practically non-existant and for the money it should do an effective job of heating a decent size room. I could have lived with the price tag if it worked effectively as a heater but with it unable to heat the room I felt like I had no choice but to return it. So if you're buying it for the looks I think you-ll be okay, if you're buying it to be a heat source keep on looking. Ive purchased another fire log similar to this one, Ill post the review on it in another day or two after we've used it for a few days. ... show more
