  • Even my old garage opener
The myQ Smart Garage Door Video Keypad with Wide-Angle Camera is replacing an old keypad that only opened and closed my garage door..... sometimes. So it's not only a big upgrade to just open my garage door, but it has several features. The one touch close is really what I use a lot. When I come back from walking my dog at night, a touch on any button lights it up. The keys are very responsive with a positive feel. I like I can add different codes for someone that may need to open the door. It sends me a message through the myQ app and tells me who opened the door. Speaking of the app. I've had the myQ door opener controller for some time. This keypad works in conjunction with the opener controller. The only thing is that there is now a banner across the top of the display when I open the app. There use to be a nice big button for me to touch, now it's a lot smaller. If the banner was gone it would be a great trade off to have the camera display above the button. And the camera.. It's clear with a very good picture day or night. It's pretty nice to add just another camera around my house. The two way talk is about as good as any other device that offers that ability. You do definitely want to order a second battery. It takes a bit of time to charge. It's very simple to remove and install the battery. The install, both mounting on the wall and the app, was very easy. ... show more

  • Bad app. Bad quality. Ridiculous subscription.
I want to update this review because the vast majority of the reviews on this product originally came from it being tied to their generic keypads on Amazon which gives an incredibly misleading view on the reviews of the video keypad itself. They changed this after this review was posted… which should give you a good indication as to how this company operates. But on to the video keypad itself: I genuinely don’t even think this is worth $10 because it just has SO many issues. The one I got had specs on the lens which caused black spots on the picture and I had to completely take it apart to clean it. THEN it wouldn’t stay connected to WiFi despite the excellent and incredibly strong signal the mesh system in our house has. (I get a full signal across the street.) To add to this, the video quality is absolute GARBAGE. The angle it has relative to the garage door at night causes an insane bright spot caused by the night vision setting/IR lights which renders the picture at night to be useless. If you have a white garage door (which is like 90% of all garage doors) the picture will essentially look like a very bright garage door and pitch black around it. Daytime quality isn’t much better. Still captures look great and you might think some of the reviews show good quality but that’s only if you have excellent lighting in the area. Motion is super blurred otherwise and the motion/human detection is horrid. I got the trial for their insane subscription they want you to get (which I’ll get into in a moment). But it basically never worked and only triggered when someone actually pressed the buttons on the keypad which defeats the whole purpose of this thing. It RARELY recorded actual motion. (I’ve walked past the camera multiple times without it triggering) The cherry on top is this isn’t Matter certified, it has no local storage, no way/option to hardwire it so you don’t have to constantly swap its batteries (because the battery life is also terrible) and the ONLY way you can review footage is to subscribe to their cloud storage service which saves your private videos captured on the camera to their server. There’s no way to locally save them or only route traffic locally so it’s possible they could get hacked and anyone could access the saved videos this camera has uploaded. To add to this, their subscription, which isn’t cheap relative to what it does, only saves videos of a certain length up to 30 days and then deletes them. You have the option of saving them but again, for something that costs this much and the subscription they REQUIRE you to have to watch playbacks, the least you’d expect is something that saved longer videos for a minimum of 90 days. Without their subscription, all this is, is a live feed of a terrible camera with egregious quality to the outside of your garage door. There are cheaper and much better ways of achieving this function. TL;DR: Overall, while the concept of this is great, this thing is absolutely terrible in everything it does. The ONLY way it could be redeemed is if they allowed you to locally save the videos and have it Matter certified so you could use whatever smart home manager of your choice to watch or save it there. This company is exceptionally greedy and should be boycotted at all costs due to their predatory business practices (you can search this) especially considering they tied this product with their generic keypads on Amazon so the reviews for this product are much more inflated than they actually are. I would never in a million years recommend this product or this company and in the future if I have a choice/need to pick a different garage door company I’d steer far away from chamberlain/liftmaster. ... show more

  • Easy to install and use
Exterior garage door keypads haven't advanced much in years, either you buy a replacement the same as the old one, with buttons that are annoyingly hard to push/register, and take 2 or 3 tries, or you upgrade slightly to some other beige boxy keypad that doesn't really improve much. So this one was intriguing, and surprisingly easy to get working. Follow the simple instructions and replace your current keypad, even using at least one of the same screw holes. Other than charging the battery, it probably only took 10 minutes total to get working and in place on the garage - it learns the garage door code just like the openers in your car learn it, simple button push. I don't use the stored video so there's no subscription fee, ignore any reviews that say it's mandatory, it just isn't. You get a 30-day trial to try it, though. It's very similar to Amazon's Ring subscription. That said, you can also always view it live, which I use to make sure I have closed the garage door if I think maybe I forgot, or see what's going on in blind spots of my driveway. It's also not much more expensive than the old style keypads, so no reason not to try it (get it on sale for around $61 if you can). No idea about how it will survive the winter months, so we'll see. But the buttons are easier to push, the home key closes the doors without a code, and you get the video feed. Give it a shot, I think you'll like it. ... show more

  • Good door opener with great features… for a premium.
The unit works very well at opening and closing the garage door. It was very easy to set up and install. However, there is about a 10 hour wait for the battery to charge. After that, the video is clear and like I stated above, it works well. The “extra” features are available behind a pay wall for a monthly fee, such as face detection, motion alerts and recording the video. The WiFi to the unit is poor and it causes the video to load slowly or not at all. I have good coverage, but I may need to add an extender in the garage for this unit. I would recommend this unit if you would like to add a key pad and video would be nice. Otherwise, it might be too expensive if you do not plan to use the “extra” features. ... show more
