Description

Indulging in a luxurious chocolate dessert should've been the highlight of the night, but for Al De Duco, it turned into a dark prelude of death. Only, it wasn't Al who succumbed to the fatal cocoa concoction but an unintended victim. This raises a chilling question: Was the lethal treat meant for the ex-Mafia man or his renowned wife, Cassie, the celebrated food critic for The Seattle Times?Al's murky past throws up several potential adversaries. Perhaps it's the embers of an old feud with Mario Carlucci from Al's notorious days with the Mafia in Chicago. Or could the vengeful hand behind the dark deed belong to Kitten Knight, Al's spurned ex-lover, with a heart as bitter as unsweetened chocolate? However, if Cassie was the intended victim, the list of suspects is equally unsettling. Myles, her rival food critic, might've wanted to sabotage her rising star. Then there's Jessica, the spiteful food blogger who's always had a sour taste for Cassie. And not to be overlooked is Jules, the owner of Frogities Restaurant, who might be concocting a sinister recipe to drown Cassie's reputation and drown out the repercussions of a death at the renowned Le Bijou Bistro.Dive into this deliciously dark tale where gourmet delights intertwine with sinister intentions. Discover if a love for food can get so intense that it leads to murder. This is the fifth serving in the delectable Northwest Cozy Mystery Series, plated up by a two-time USA Today Bestselling Author. • Loved it
A great story, well written with lots of twists and turns. Well developed characters and a real mystery until the end.

  • Easy
Good, easy to read book, meaning it didn't just have filler words that got boring. Holds ones attention all the way to the end.

  • Well Written Mystery
Dianne Harman writes very well and has a variety of interesting main characters in each of her mystery series. She usually has a few viable suspects in each book, so the ending has an element of surprise but the story makes sense and the characters are believable. Sometimes I even have a little sympathy for the person who committed the crime, and wish that they could have found a better solution to a very vexing problem. Not in this book. The evil action was way out of proportion to the small hurt to the villain, and the villain was not likeable even before the villainy in the story. However the book was otherwise a very well written mystery. Just a plot that I found a little darker than I was expecting. ... show more

  • I really LOVED what Al did at the end--and so will you!!
I loved Al De Duco in the last of the Northwest series--a criminal with a heart of gold! He has given up his life of crime and married Cassie who he had fallen head over heels in love with at first sight. They were going out with their friends Jake and DeeDee to an exclusive French Restaurant. They were both excited to announce their marriage. Because Cassie wrote a food column the restaurant reserved Table 12 for them. At the last minute Al decided he did not want to sit at that table so they were seated where he could see the door in a more secluded corner. Next thing they know is a woman-seated at the table they were supposed to sit at is choking--then immediately dies--just after being served and eating a piece of chocolate cake. It did not go unnoticed by Al that THEY should have been seated at that table! Who was that chocolate cake meant for? Maybe one of A's old advisary's from his Mafia days--or a woman he used to know--or was it Cassie? Lot's of suspects--and why was Cassie's daughter kidnapped? Can they find and save Brianna (Cassie's daughter)? Who is really behind all of this and why? I really LOVED what Al did at the end--and so will you!! ... show more

  • Interesting Way Someone Was Murdered
This was a very interesting cozy mystery because not only did it have the main character, DeeDee being told by her friend Cassie that she went to Las Vegas with the man who she just started dating who is a retire mobster, Al De Duco but also got married while in Las Vegas. DeeDee and Luke invite Cassie and Al out to dinner at Le Bijou Bistro where DeeDee is suppose to do a review of the restaurant and they now get a table for four. Big surprise, the table for two where Cassie and Al were suppose to sit; a chocolate cake was brought to them for desert and the woman dies. This has a lot of suspects and it takes awhile to find out who really was the intended victim. This will keep your mind working and focus off having to stay home for other reasons. ... show more

  • Murder at Le Bijou Bistro: Northwest Cozy Mystery Series (Northwest Cozy Mysteries Book 5)
What a thrilling novel from an author that I have been dying to read! I especially loved big Al a retired mobster with a quirky sense of humor and long reaching arms to protect those dear to him! Al and Cassie had married in Las Vegas where her daughter thought it was too soon after her father's death. Al, Cassie his wife, DeDe and Jake met at a restaurant where Cassie made a reservation but Al requested another table. All of a suddenly the couple at their old table, a woman was choking a fell onto the table dead. This novel was a fast read that had me incorrectly choosing who had poisoned the cake, and I can't wait to read another book from this author! ... show more

Good story! Really enjoy the Al character. He was funny and sort of scary. Jessica was really crazy. WOW! Glad to see DeeDee wasn't the focus of the murder. Really good story.
