  • Nice instrument, takes some doing to set up.
Color: Maple
This is a nice banjo, but takes some doing to set up. No instructions came with it. Banjo action was too high so needed the coordinator rod adjusted to lower the action. The tailpiece set screw nut was missing, got one at the hardware store. The electronic tuner was inoperative. The finger picks included were child-size and too small for an adult. Had to fiddle with head tension for best tone. If you buy this banjo, Google some videos on banjo setup and you shouldn’t have any trouble. I didn’t have any difficulty setting up this banjo, but a beginner wouldn’t know how. Mulucky should have included an instruction pamphlet. Banjo plays fine and sounds good. I’d rate the instrument as a 4, value as a 4, for beginners as a 3. ... show more

  • Good Mini Banjo for the Price
Color: Maple
I got the min-banjo today. It wasn't hard to set up, but, as others mention, there are no instructions. It looks good. It holds tune well, and it's a lot of fun to play. I have two other banjos, a Gold Tone OB250 and an Oscar Schmidt OB-5.

  • Clawhammer player - have owned MANY banjos over the years - here are my thoughts on this one
Color: Maple
So like the headline says, I've a clawhammer banjo player, have owned a LOT of banjos over the last 20 some odd years. Omes, Chuck Lee, Mike Ramsey, Bart Reiter, Deering, Gold Tone, etc... .all of them open backs. I got this one in lieu of another Deering Goodtime to use for traveling, it's smaller, lighter and definitely cheaper. I will say this banjo is an EXCELLENT value for the money for the most part. Overall the construction was good, nice finish, fingerboard is nice, etc. There were a few minor things, mostly with the 'resonator' on the back. Keep in mind, the 'resonator' on this one doesn't have any sound holds like a traditional banjo resonator, it's basically a thing circle of plywood screwed onto the wooden pot in back. Which brings my first QC complaint, where they screwed the resonator to the pot (they advertise it as removable), the screws they used (they are tiny) actually split the thin little pot in a few locations. Not a big deal, but not something encouraging to see. With that said, the resonator removed does warm up the tone some, like most of us clawhammer players like. But keep in mind its still a very 'tinny' sounding banjo. Very bright. The next complaint are the tuners. As others have said, they just aren't that great. I believe they'd be better suited finding some open gear tuners of a bit better quality for the same price. Or even charge a little more and get you some decent tuners. Lastly, the setup is a bit tricky. They give you a nice little measuring template thingy to show you the bridge positioning. However, keep in mind this is just for reference and you still need to 'tweak' the final position (you can find videos online on how to do this). That's where this thing gets very touchy, where just a fraction of an inch will be enough to move the reference note (for intonation) too far one way or the other. I never could get it exactly accurate. But with that said...it really isn't that critical I don't guess, but banjo guys will know what I mean when I say it's just....annoying. Anyway, I would NOT recommend this for a beginner banjo player either. Just too tricky to set up, too tricky to tune and keep in tune, and honestly a small fingerboard like this is a pain to play. Get yourself a full size banjo first, then go from there. It'll be a lot easier. For the seasoned player, Again I will say you get your moneys worth this one for sure, as it's a nice little banjo. Just don't expect perfection. ... show more

  • Great for beginners
Color: Brown
I loved how nicely made for the price and you can carry it everywhere with you.
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2023 by I honestly knew nothing about banjos when I bought this-except that I mistakenly bought a banjitar first! But, this is a great little banjo-exactly what I wanted, I’m a literal beginner. It was super easy to tune with a phone app and you can carry it everywhere with you-great little banjo especially for the price!

  • Love this thing!!
Color: Brown
I’m super happy with this banjo. The only flaw I really see is that strings 1-4 their tuners could be a little better. But I mean with this price point I couldn’t be more happy. Picks are cheap like usual but I mounted the pickup system that came with it shown in pictures and it sounds pretty good. For this price point everything is very impressive to me. Very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Perfect for Ukulele players
Color: Brown
I am mostly an Ukulele player, but I wanted to try to learn the banjo. Most of the entry level banjos I had looked at were a bit too pricy for me without knowing if I liked it or not, and I also prefer a smaller instrument than a full size banjo. I decided to give this product a shot, and overall I am pleasantly surprised. The set up time did take me a while, maybe two or three hours, but I had never done it before so your mileage may vary. I ended up slightly filing the nut at the second string, and getting the bridge position right was a bit of a struggle, but overall it wasn’t that bad. If the notes sound a bit sharp while you are fretting, that is normal. I’m used to being able to fret as hard as I want, but apparently banjos need to be pressed close to the fret and fairly lightly or it will go out of tune. I had seen a review that said that the strings would be tuned one octave above standard tuning, but the strings that came with mine work great for standard tuning so maybe something changed since then. The build quality is really nice, especially for the price. The accessories were a bit unnecessary for me, but the bag and strap are definitely appreciated. Overall, I’m having a ton of fun learning a new instrument and I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is interested in trying the banjo, especially if you are used to smaller stringed instruments. ... show more

  • It’s definitely okay
It’s a cute little banjo and does the job for just playing. However there are NO instructions, the bridge came glued to the head of the banjo and I’m still trying to pick all the glue off. Also, the tuner that comes with is horrid, I have to use an app on my phone instead. I’ll continue to use for the time being, just buyer beware I suppose. ... show more

  • A Good Mini 5 String Banjo
Color: Brown
I've played banjo for over fifty years and five years as a full time professional banjo player. I own five pre-war Gibson banjos. I got this mini banjo to keep in my car for unexpected times that I want to play the banjo but don't have a first class banjo with me. (Example: I go somewhere like to a sportsman's club and the conversation leads to me playing a demonstration on the banjo.) I don't want to keep a valuable instrument in my vehicle to expose it to the heat and the cold. I am impressed with the mini with what the Orientals can do for short money. This is a good little banjo. The frets are accurate, the neck is straight, it has OK tone, not a bad finish, stays in tune, and it is fun to play. There is, in my not so humble opinion, one bad thing — one of the position markers is not in the correct location for a banjo; it is where a guitar marker would be. The marker is on the ninth fret (guitar) and should be on the tenth fret (banjo). This may not be an issue for a lot of people but I play more up the neck than down the neck. I get confused because on the short neck, with a slightly shorter scale length, I have to look at my left hand for proper position. What I had to do was take a magic marker, the color of the fingerboard, and color in the dot, to hide the ninth fret position marker. I put a dot at the tenth fret made out of sticky white tape. Once I did that I could play up the neck without having to think. All in all, it is convenient to have a playable banjo with me when ever I am away from home. ... show more
