    • Plan on using during Elk Season
After some research on propane heaters I was set on using a Mr. Heater wall heater during my 2013 elk season in Meeker, CO. Unfortunately it and the Buddy heaters have built in Oxygen shut off valves that are prone to failure at high elevation due to the thin air. My father in law suggested the tank top heater as they use the same process as the buddy units, but don't have the oxygen shutoff and therefore are not rated for indoor use. Our tent is a old drafty army wall tent one of my buddies acquired many years ago. It measures 16x48' and is is set up for a wood stove and has multiple vents. My plan is to have the wood stove at one end and the propane heater set on low at the other with several CO detectors and smoke alarms throughout. The stove heats great, but regardless of how much damping we do it burns out about midway through the night. Hopefully Mr. Heater will keep us warm and not kill us all in our sleep during the process! I've been testing it in my garage which is similar in size to the tent, but much more air tight. It hasn't set off any alarms yet. If it does we will probably just use it to heat the tent up in the morning when we are getting ready. I had a 20+ year old propane heater that is finally dead. I needed a new one. I am just heating a 2 car insulated garage in Northern California. When the garage was in the 40s during a cold snap, 34 degrees outside. (Cold for us, I know) I had the garage at 72 in about 20 minutes. Then I would shut a burner down and have the other to the lowest setting and it maintained 68 - 70 with no problems. I get about a week in the garage for a 3-4 hour wrench session in this way. The negatives (not deal breakers); it does not have an igniter. My old one had a push to spark ignition. The other is to shut down one side you have to shut both off for about a minute. Then the thermocoupler cools off on the one you don’t want to run. Then ignite the other side. ... show more

    • Would be nice...if it worked
Took it out of the box and was impressed with the build quality and ease of setup. Came with everything I needed to hook up to my standard bbq propane cylinder. It has two burners that can be adjusted for different angles. One of the 2 burners is defective. One lights and stays on, the other will light but as soon as you release the button for lighting the burner it turns off. It appears that the safety function to cut off the gas is stuck on. I thought I was doing something incorrect but I fully read the instructions and have no problem with the other burner. My guess is they have poor quality control and clearly this was not tested prior to shipping. Update - Pro Hardware (seller) refunded me for the defective item. I bought some spare parts and spent some time on it and now it's fully up and running. Definitely a bigger project than I was hoping for. But pro hardware made right by me. ... show more
