Mattress arrived in a tightly wrapped bundle. I laid it out flat on my futon frame and observed it was very lumpy and had a MILD almost plastic-type odor, but I opened the bedroom window, turned on the fan and didn't return to the room until the following day. At that time, the mattress lumps flattened out and the faint odor was almost completely gone. I put on a futon cover and then situated frame into an upright position with mattress on it quite easily. Mattress is very comfortable and I would purchase again. Just be prepared to let the mattress "air out" for a day or two and that it should be laid flat for a day or two as well so that it levels out. ... show more

I was concerned about what would arrive. It was shipped and sold by amazon so I was mostly confident. Upon arrival it was very thin. However, give it 4 days to fully fluff. It is great, very comfortable and good value for what I paid. I got the black which will not stain if liquid spills on sheets. I do not recommend sleeping on a futon without a fitted and top sheet, a double layer to keep it sanitary. My only complaint is the box was sealed with a single layer of tape on each end and was almost torn open. Thanks, amazon. ... show more

    • So far, so good!
This was just delivered yesterday and so far I'm pleased. I got it to replace a thinner mattress that was uncomfortable because I could feel the steel bars of the futon frame through it. This is almost twice as thick as the other mattress and I am very comfortable on it. I can't feel the futon frame anymore. It still gives off an odor, but I'm hoping that will dissipate soon. I'm a little disappointed with the cover fabric, I thought it might be nicer, but it will do. This is just for the guest room, so it won't be getting that much use and should work out fine. ... show more

    • How to get rid of the Smell!
This did show up with the smell that other reviews mentioned. It makes sense since the matress was made only the day before it was shipped. All mattresses and soft material home good need to off gas the VOCs of the fire retardant treatment but most of them do it in a warehouse before the customer gets it. I was setting it up in a spare room so I was able to air it out for a full 7 days with multiply fans on it before anyone was going to sleep on it. After then it still had an smell but not too strong. One thing to note is that some people are more susceptible to these VOCs than others so I could smell it and it gave me a mild headache in the first couple day but my husband couldn't ever smell it. If at all possible let this product air out before use. I am 2 weeks out now and there is a faint smell but it is nearly gone. On comfort level my mother in law slept on it for 5 days and found it to be nearly as comfortable as her regular bed. Once expanded full it did reach the promised size but did not fill the fabric cover. This was good though because it offered a little flex when folding into a couch which is a chore. ... show more

when i received the mattress in a beat up cardboard box i wasn't sure this product was going to meet my expectations. Then when i removed it from the aforementioned box and saw that the life was sucked out of it (vacuum packed), i again was skeptical. So, i cut the banding and laid the mattress out on the futon frame. A piece of paper in the box said to wait a day or two for the mattress to spring to life again. A couple days later, sure enough, the mattress was perfect. it's thick, soft, feels great and looks fantastic. i highly recommend it!!! ... show more

Bought this futon with Black Metal Futon Bed Frame (Frame only) here on amazon, but it has given me nothing but trouble. Fabric is comfy, but this mattress isn't thick enough (I purchased the 8 inch) it was so thin, I was able to feel the bars of the frame through the mattress. It's defiantly big enough or me and my Fiancee, but that's the only plus to this mattress. I had to get rid of the frame, and we're now sleeping on the floor with nothing but this mattress beneath us. ... show more

This became the futon part of a futon bunk bed. Three kids used it all summer as a couch, their fort, and a bed (since they all had to sleep in the fort). It's thick, comfy, and heavy. You can't feel the bars holding it up at all.

I have never in my 40 plus years sat or slept in a futon and said that I must do that again. This mattress however, is balanced with firmness and comfort. The packaging was terrible. Both ends of the mattress were exposed due to severely ripped cardboard packaging. It was wrapped in plastic fortunately but I am still lucky that it didn't get ripped or stained from all the mud and snow in my area. ... show more
