Description

For 30 years, FoxTrot cartoonist Bill Amend has been injecting his quirky brand of family humor into America’s newspapers and bookshelves while earning a reputation as an authority at signing overly well-read, dog-eared paperbacks. With Mother Is Coming, the first FoxTrot collection in more than two years, fans young and less young will get 144 crisp and pristine color pages featuring the latest in Fox family chaos, with the usual forays into math, science, gaming, geekdom, and pop culture. Fox children Jason, Paige, and Peter, parents Andy and Roger, and pet iguana, Quincy, all make appearances as they battle such challenges as schoolwork, family dinners, social media, and how to climb theater stairs in a BB-8 costume. • Another great collection
If you like Fox Trot, you will enjoy this. Just an awesome collection

  • hilarious riffs on modern culture
As the title suggests, Game of Thrones and other movie/media jokes about in this collection of Sunday cartoons by the great Bill Amend. We also see more of 10-yr-old Jason's eternally frozen in latency yet evolving non-relationship with classmate Elaine, which is especially welcome as it shows a female character in a role other than harried mom or clothing obsessed teen. Not that Amend doesn't see -- and show -- the humor latent in those tropes, but Elaine is a breath of fresh air. Amend also has terrific fun with topics NO ONE else has the wits to riff off: physics, math, biology, and the easier topics of school lunches, holiday debacles, and sibling rivalry. Aging dads and sports obsessed boys are the low hanging fruit, but no matter the topic, Amend finds fresh humor. This is one of the few genuinely funny comics left. So enjoy! ... show more

My husband loves Calvin and Hobbes - he is happy with this book.

  • I do miss the dailies, but at least this is still around.
It was a sad day when Mr. Amend gave up the daily strip. One knows it is good comedy when the laughter pushes a person into risking an asthma attack. But risk it I did, and worth every wheeze. It would have been interesting to see the Fox family adjusting to life in these days instead of the little glimpses. But there we are. The titles given to the Sunday panels in the books helps a lot in understanding the punch lines better. Thanks. ... show more

  • Overall a Great book.
I love Bill Amend’s humor and this book is great. The only issue I have is Amazon using bags to ship books I wish they would use boxes only with good packing. My book arrived with bent corners that is the reason I wish they would stop using bags.

  • Worth the purchase!
I got this for the hubby. He's been a lifelong fan of this comic and owns all of the books....or so I thought!! I was super happy to see that he hadn't read any of the comics in this book before & that they're not just reprints from previous books!

  • There is not a single fox in this book!
It turns out, this is a cartoon book about a family with the last name of Fox. I was expecting an art book with scenes from Game Of Thrones acted out by actual foxes. It was still an entertaining read. My cat, Cornelius J. Vanderfluff, especially loves the materiel the cover is made out of. He will not cease sleeping on it. ... show more

  • Great Combination of Academics and Pop Culture
MOTHER IS COMING is a collection of “Foxtrot” comics. It collects the strips that appeared from January 4, 2015 – August 13, 2017. I’ll admit that since “Foxtrot” has become a Sunday only strip, it’s not quite as entertaining as it once was when it was a daily strip. However, despite appearing only once a week the strip still has moments that capture the charm that made it so special. I’ve always liked “Foxtrot” because it infuses educational areas (such as mathematics and physics) with pop culture references. The title of the book is taken from a strip where Jason and Marcus are sitting on the couch watching “Game of Thrones.” Jason loves the show, but his mother has told him time and time again he is not supposed to watch it. In this strip, he and Marcus have built a giant wall out of white Legos so they can watch the show, only to hear Jason’s mom’s voice behind the wall. ... show more
