Technically it says 3/8" mesh but the eye is 3/4" if you want to be more specific. The mesh though is not the type of monofilament that's durable if you cast it over reef. This will definitely get mangled. It's meant more for casting over baitfish that is on a sandy bottom so that this will not get destroyed. Other than that, this is made very well with no flaws. I had to drop it by a star because of the type of monofilament used not being able to be as durable as I thought it would be. I know I'll be patching holes if I mistakenly get this on reef. On the cast though, if you're really good at it, it will form a full circle and it will sink to the bottom fast enough for you to surround the bait fish to be caught. I'd use a longer tether if I were you, but it all depends on how deep you want to let it sink. So, it's your preference. It comes with everything you need to start off with this as well as the patches and the tether. Get it and try it out. It will work for you. But like I said, if you're at a reefed area like me, then this may not be it. But if you're at a place where there's sand everywhere, then get this. ... show more

Overall this is fine for my current purposes - teaching kids to fish in a relatively small lake. These weights are not particularly heavy, and they are not fast sink. So it's for shallow applications (lake shad, etc). My previous 6 foot net was at least 10 pounds, and this 8 foot net is only 6 pounds. And I don't think the net material is a durable as name brand alternatives. They say monofilament but they don't give any specifics, and it's definitely thinner than my name brand net. The storage tub is both durable and clear, which is nice. But it's tight fit repacking the net back into it. It's fine for occasional light use. ... show more

Got this to use at a nearby beach to pick up baitfish. While I am a beginner at throwing a Cast Net, I've been able to get the hang of it and it's effective. I don't have a lot of experience using other cast nets so I can't tell you how it stacks up, but it's worked well for me so far. I’ve had nets in the past that the mesh was so thin and light weight that it tore easily. This is not that. True to size and with a mesh that is nice and thick. The weights are plastic coated and I don’t really like that but they do work and don’t cause tangles like others I’ve used in the past. This is actually a really nice cast net for the price. It seems to be really well made, and comes in a bucket you can use to keep it from getting tangled. It seems to be made of decent weight line, and seems to be pretty sturdy. Nice weights on the end to help get it out there. Ok let's be clear I know how to throw a cast net, been doing it for 30 years. So if you are a rookie at this it will be hard but it not the nets fault. That being said this net throws nicely, I have the 6' net and it opens fine. It is a good net. I caught a few mullets with it and had no issues with tearing from fins gill plates and any twisting the fish cause. The mullets are 1 pound range about 14" at the biggest.
