It's a little slower than a butane lighter, but it doesn't leave soot on the tubing and is much more controllable for the amount of shrink. The heat pen works as it should. I'm not unhappy with the performance. My one criticism would be the length of the power cord. It's only 3-feet long, so either your outlet has to be really close to your work area or you have to use an extension cord. I only used a handful of times and quit working. No warning. Plugged in and wouldn't turn back on. Contacted customer service through Amazon and since it was past the return date, I would have to call the manufacturer for warranty which is an overseas number. Waste of time and money!
