My 8 year old daughter was able to use this and make pots, but she had to learn to maintain a light touch or the wheel stops turning. She also just enjoyed experimenting with the clay as it rotated. The clay needs to be pretty soft for this. She enjoyed it very much, just be prepared for a serious clean-up job or put it outside or somewhere that can handle a lot of splattering, ... show more

This makes a big mess, but it is so much fun. You have to let the clay dry a little when it first comes out of the package because it is the consistency of mud. However, after you let it dry (to about play-doh texture) this is so much fun. It is also much better than play-doh because any that gets dried out can be reanimated with water. You can also let it dry a couple of days to make fun pottery. You don't need the plastic pottery wheel or anything, just shape and play. Have fun! ... show more
