The set is absolutely beautiful in heavyweight (18/10 stainless steel) with a brilliant sheen. There hasn't been any issue with spotting in the dishwasher, although the manufacturer recommends removing and drying the knives prior to the dry cycle and hand-drying the knife blades. This set replaces an 18/0 flatware set, and the 18/10 Mikasa set is sturdy, heavy, and shines much more than the old set. When I got married almost 50 years ago, I received a very nice set of silverware as a gift. We used those forever until some of the spoons got eaten by the garbage disposal, and some of the forks got lost, etc. I supplemented with cheaper replacements over the years but decided this year to gift myself a new set of quality silverware. I knew Mikasa was a good company. I have been thrilled with the pieces I received. They look so nice and feel so good in the hand. You can tell they are of quality. And it is wonderful to have nice pretty silverware that all matches! It's a silly thing, I know, but it's the little things in life that can make a big difference. This is an excellent silverware set and a great value. I have been using them as daily silverware since purchasing (end of December 2023) and they are holding up incredibly well. I do wash them in the dishwasher and haven't had any issues with that. They are a bit on the heavy side. This isn't necessarily a good or bad thing. It all depends on what you're looking for. The weight and thickness of the butter knife handles are the only possible issues. It makes them take up a lot more space in your silverware drawer and makes dropping them more likely as they're bottom heavy. I'm going to buy a new silverware organizer (deeper) to solve one of those issues and will just have to get used to the weight/balancing. They seem to be of very high quality though. I got these at a very reasonable price and am quite happy with the purchase. Now if I can remember to make sure none have fallen into my disposal before turning it on. (One of the reasons I needed new silverware.) These are bulkier than my previous set so shouldn't be an issue. ... show more
