  • Excellent product for intended use...One small issue but not a biggie.
Color: Obsidian Black Style: HX1 Cat & Dog
We got this vacuum mostly due to reviews. It does a great job on our floors, throw rugs, etc. and especially on picking up pet hair (we have 3 cats and a dog). My only disappointment is that the dust collection 'bin' is really too small and has to be emptied way too often (our house is over 3500 sq.ft.). One interesting point is that we have had a Dyson Ball 'animal' vacuum for years and it doesn't pick up anywhere near what this cordless thing does. I definitely recommend the vacuum with the caveat that you need to be prepared to empty the dust bin more often that you may like. To us it's not a deal breaker since the performance is outstanding it's light weight and quiet. ... show more

  • Great with a few limitations
Color: Infinity Grey Style: HX1 Pro
We've owned a Miele canister for years and are very happy with it. What made me get the HX1 was the maneuverability which, in an old house that extends over 3 floors, is a real plus. But it is a cordless and bagless vacuum, and that brings some trade-offs. Suction power: definitely not like the canister, but I find it sufficient for almost all situations. It gets the dirt of the hardwood floors, the tiles in kitchen and bathrooms, and the carpets and area rugs (more on those later). Dust bin: the bin is fairly small and does require frequent emptying. Unlike others, I never had an issue with it opening inadvertently, but there is no clear stop to prevent that. You just turn the handle until it the bin comes off and have to stop there. Could this have been solved better - probably. Is it an issue - I don't think so. BUT: if you are vacuuming a lot of fine dirt/dust, you will find that the whole thing gets very dirty and requires extensive cleaning. Pre-filter, paper filter, the bin - everything needs to get rinsed and scrubbed, which can easily take 10 minutes. And don't put it back together before it's all dry! Otherwise, you'll experience lovely moldy smell the next time you use it. (If you continue to use it before it's completely dry, you'll have the dust and dirt get stuck everywhere in the bin.) There's a rubber lip that is supposed to ensure that the dirt stays in the bottom of the bin. That works - IF you only use the vacuum fully upright. If you need to lower the bin so you can get under a bed or sofa, the dirt will creep up to the top of the bin and now your filters get dirty again. Batteries: I now have 3 batteries and 3 chargers (including the wall mount). I find that I go through about 2 1/4 batteries to vacuum about 1600 sqft, and I'm rarely using level 3 suction, mostly level 1 and 2. Getting the batteries (and the vacuum) in and out of the chargers takes some getting used to. You need to push them in and manage to get the direction just right. This could have been solved better but, again, you get used to it and after a while you don't notice it that much. My biggest negative comment is about the brush head being fairly rough on area rugs. We have a few wool rugs, and even on level 1, there's a lot of abrasion there, not to mention the fringes frequently being sucked in and then getting wound up by the brush and sometimes even torn off. Since there is no way to turn the brush off, I now take it out before I vacuum the rugs. It works well, but it's a hassle that I'd rather not have. Being able to switch the brush off like with the canister vacuum would be really helpful. (It also would be nice if there was a "beater" head, instead of only brushes, to loosen up the dirt in the rugs.) I continue to love the free movement the cordless operation allows and the canister vac mostly stays in the broom closet. This is a good vacuum, and I'm not sure there's a better cordless one around. But please understand that it has its limitations. ... show more

  • Definitely Get the “Pro” Model...You NEED the Extra Battery.
Color: Infinity Grey Style: HX1 Pro
I used it for the first time this morning and thought it did a great job. It definitely gets the dirt out of your carpet. The dust canister, as I expected, is pretty small and doesn’t hold a lot of dust and requires more frequent emptying than one might be accustomed to. I also found a big chunk of dust and hair during my first use, and the clump had gone past the inner seal and into the upper section of the canister, which I don't think it is supposed to do. I had to use a small tool to delicately pry loose the bundle of dirt so that it would fall out more easily. This hasn't happened since the first use. I guess I just had a LOT of dirt in my carpet! My old vacuum must not have been as good. For the most part, the dust canister is easy enough to tap on the inside of the trash liner to empty it out, as is the HEPA filter, which you will probably need to do after so many uses of the vacuum. The unit did a really nice job cleaning my area rugs on the lowest setting. I have low-pile area rugs. It runs really quiet compared to my old vacuum, too. I increased the power to level 2 for the wall to wall carpet as it is a bit thicker, and I used the same power level on the hardwood floors to suck up the dust, food crumbs, etc. I never needed to use the highest setting. That must be for really bad messes if one drops something and has a huge spill to clean up. It's good though, because the highest setting really is a battery drainer. The one battery lasted for most of my 2-bedroom apartment, but that was without me doing any dusting. I didn’t have enough juice to do my second bedroom. Since the “Pro” model comes with an extra battery, that solved my problem. I had already charged it and was back in action and was able to finish the rest of my apartment, including dusting with the attachments. The machine is fairly easy to operate when the motor section is installed towards the bottom when vacuuming for better weight distribution. Paring it down for dusting, I though that it might be a little too heavy for some who might have weak arms or a weak grip. I though it was comfortable to use as a handheld vacuum, but my arms are fairly strong and never got tired holding it in my hand. I bought the motorized head attachment too for when I am ready to vacuum the carpet in my car. I don’t have to hold the power switch in to keep it operating, like you do on the Dyson models! Yeah! 👍🏻 I can't stress enough how much I recommend purchasing the “Pro” model, because having that extra battery makes all the difference in usability and convenience, especially if you are wanting to get all your vacuuming done in one session versus splitting it up and waiting 4 hours to recharge one battery, and then continue. As I mentioned, I have a 2-bedroom apartment and think that one battery isn’t sufficient. You might also want to do some dusting while you are vacuuming the place, so having that extra battery really helps. Just thought I would mention that. Happy vacuuming! :) ... show more
