We specifically bought these to use on our road trips so our vehicles could stay in contact. We never had any issues with distance, however we did have a small issue with the included mic/earpieces. They are pretty sensitive to wind/external noise and will garble the transmission. This was solved by turning off air/radio when speaking. When using the handheld unit it works beautifully. May be able to switch to another 2-prong earpiece/mic of better quality to avoid this issue; we just didn’t have time to order any to test this before our trip. Love the fact you can charge them by usb if you are away from the base charger. I also truly appreciate the storage case! It makes this system (in particular) better for us so we can keep it all together and easy to pull out for whatever/whenever we need. ... show more

These radios work perfectly in the rural setting where they are used. Set up was easy and instructions were clear. Range is approximately 1.5-2 miles line of sight max. They are used on a rural property usually around 300 yards and are perfectly clear. Battery life is good, about 2 days with intermittent use. The one con and the reason for 4 stars is the low battery warning. The battery indicator goes from 3 bars (full) to low warning and shut off while skipping the two and one bar setting in about an hour. If you leave the radio on with it showing 3 bars on the second day of use you will find it shut off later with little indication of low battery. I decided to charge it every other day to avoid this as opposed to watching the battery indicator and this works well enough for now. All in all, a pretty good and inexpensive option if your intended use will allow for unexpected shut off due to low battery with essentially no warning. ... show more

Typically you can't go wrong with Midland. We got these for use on 4x4 trails, and of course, the extra $$ for the Jeep ones had to be done since we have Jeeps. Does the extra Jeep color and logo help anything, nope. But the radios themselves work perfectly. I like the USB connection on the side so we can keep them charged while driving and not have to bring the charging base along. ... show more
