Middara is like living in a fantasy book. It has an amazing storyline that makes it engaging and the characters come to life. The combat mechanics are very well done to make it challenging yet engaging. Overall a great game! So many options to choose from to make it interesting all the time.

The game has an awesome action mechanism allowing you to use sp (stamina points) that accumulate each turn to take actions. I love the combat mechanism with the ability to dodge and counter for the same sp cost of an attack which allows you to be more defensive or offensive. Being able to fully customize your characters without being locked into a single class is super fun. It took a long time for us to upgrade our characters, but it’s fun because of all the options we have. We've also played a lot of games that have an initiative track, but this game reshuffles the initiative track every round keeping it more exciting and realistic. It is also not a super easy game. We have been able to win most of the time, but we get close to losing almost every time. This game is amazing. It has a ton of flexibility with how you play the game. We have been playing the adventure mode and the story is interesting and it is fun to get into the characters and customize in super fun ways. Ive played multiple crawler games and this one by far has the best combat mechanic and an action economy that feels good and accurate. The models look amazing and the tiles make the game come to life. Super fun game. I highly recommend to anyone wanting a game to play with friends or family on a regular basis. ... show more

Middara is a jrpg style boardgame. It has a massive story (nearly 400 pages in Act 1 alone). Its also the only game I know where every character is a blank slate to let you build them ANY way you want. Tank, rogue, duel-weild blender, blood mage, summoner, shapeshifter and many more. I've best heard it described as Final Fanstasy the boardgame. The company is very passionate about thier workand always quick to respond. This is actually my second copy. This is my first big box game, and Middara didn’t disappoint! Getting started was a bit of an endeavor, but thankfully there are PLENTY of good instruction videos on youtube, and after reading the guidebook and watching the vids, we were off on our adventure. Gameplay is engaging and intuitive once you get the sequence of game play down. The storytelling and beautiful illustrations alone are masterful works of art. The intricacies of gameplay are impressive and lend themselves to hone in your strategy as you understand it better. I estimate we’ll be playing this game for a year at least! Since playing act 1 in 2022, our group has played several other table top Dungeon Crawlers. Middara hands down has the most customizable ability trees in the Genre. Of the ones we've played only Drunagor comes close. Equipment also gains different abilities as you reach new loot levels, so it doesn't feel like your stuck with the same piece of gear then entire playthrough, like it does in Oathsworn, Drunagar, & Bardsong. ... show more
