  • I don't think it's good
I bought this product with great expectations after seeing the pictures, but I was very disappointed after receiving it. The product quality is extremely poor, with paint peeling, rust, and the focus wheel loose and falling off. The chassis screws were rusted and loose, and there was no way to fix the fill light. The viewing effect was not as magnified as 2000. It was a terrible shopping experience. ... show more

  • Decent introduction!
The best thing about this microscope is it comes with many accessories that allow kids to begin their exploration into the microscopic world. Is it a solid microscope? No! Are the accessories high quality? No! I remember as a kid how much fun it was to put everything I could find under the microscope and was fascinated with amoebas and the like. It wasn't the same for my grandkids. Maybe when they are a little older but at least I didn't spend a fortune on a high-quality setup. The instructions are rough. The pieces don't fit securely and the tray below that holds the mirror or light is loose. IT DOES NOT COME WITH THE BATTERY FOR THE LIGHT. Not great but not bad! ... show more

  • Exploring Crystals with Enhanced Magnification
The LED on this device requires a button cell battery, but the packaging didn't specify which size. Luckily, I had some CR2032 batteries available, and one fit perfectly, making the LED functional. This was a relief, especially since I was using the device in a poorly lit area and needed the LED as my primary light source. The device also includes a mirror for reflecting external light, which is useful if you're not using the LED, though this feature wasn't well explained in the instructions. The microscope comes with several sample slides, including some that feature colored crystals. Observing these at various magnifications revealed new details each time, offering a progressively more impressive view as I increased the magnification. This kit is not meant to be a child's toy; it's a genuine, fragile microscope intended for educational use only. Handling it carelessly can easily result in broken slides or scratched lenses. I plan to keep it out of reach from children, allowing access only under adult supervision. The microscope also includes a phone attachment to facilitate sharing images, a feature reminiscent of similar setups I used in college. This attachment requires minor adjustments for optimal viewing but provides a useful digital interface for educational sharing. ... show more

  • Instructions are meh
Ok, so the instructions are kind of...meh... The led takes a button cell battery, but it didn't say what size to use. I had some CR2032 batteries lying around and put one in there and it worked! I was prepared for a failure to be honest. I wasn't in a well lit area so use the mirror to reflect light, so the led would be my only option. I'm glad it worked. The slides included are pretty nice. It comes with some sample slides so you can look at different things. I liked the colored crystals. We looked at them at different magnifications and saw them in a different beauty each time. I would start off with the lowest magnification and work your way up each time just to be wowed. The one I got only had the course adjustment knob. The directions spoke of more than 1 version. I'm pretty happy with this. It's not going to be a kid play toy. We are going to use it for educational purposes only. If you let kids handle it without supervision, be prepared to have broken slides and scratched lenses. This is not a toy to toss in a toy box. It is an actual working microscope and is as fragile as regular microscopes. The lenses need to be kept safe. I'm going to personally keep it out of reach except when there's an adult to supervise and make sure things are done right. I like the phone attachment part for the lens. Back in college, I did that to show people what I found and it's nice that they have something for that here. It will need some adjustment after you put it on vs what you saw with your eyes, but not a big adjustment. The image will be small unless you zoom in to try to fill the space on your screen. It's circular too as the hole you're looking through is a circle. Overall, if you can get over the meh instructions, it's a good kit. The mirror is if you have outside light that you want to reflect up to the stage to light your sample if you're not using the led... or that's how I'm taking it to be... it wasn't really explained, so you need to know your way around a microscope at least a little to use this. Do know that the magnification at the bottom right above the stage are different lengths, so watch what you're doing if you have a shorter one close to the stage and decide to switch magnifications. As with a microscope in schools and labs, you will make it touch the slide and possibly break a slide or scratch your lens if you don't pay attention. Hasn't happened to me, but it's possible with all microscopes that I've used including this one. Have fun with science!!! ... show more
