  • Microplane is the best
Style Name: Extra Coarse
I wanted a small handheld grater for when our box grater was overkill or was dirty. I originally discovered microplane from their zesters and love the brand. The handheld grater this replaces (different brand) was never as sharp or as sturdy, even when new.

  • Easy to use
Style Name: Ultra Coarse
This purchase was to replace an older model with a plastic handle. VERY, VERY sharp!! Had to use my cutting glove because it was so sharp. Cut through mozzarella like a hot knife through butter.

  • Works like a dream!
Style Name: Extra Coarse
While moving into our home a few years ago, somehow our box grater and one-handled cheese graters were lost. Since then I’ve been dragging out the trusty old’ Cuisinart food processor when I’ve needed to shred cheese… which is a quite literally a pain (I have severe DDD) and creates a lot of unnecessary clean up. Because my Microplane grater (which thankfully didn’t become lost in the move) does such a great job zesting citrus and grating fine things, I decided to stick with Microplane, and I’m glad I did! This little grater is amazing! It’s much more handy and takes up a lot less room than an old fashioned, bulky box grater. With a box grater, you need to have a stable surface so you can grate over a plate or paper towel, but you still have to keep it stable with one hand. With this, you can lay the grater horizontally over the top of a plate, bowl, pot or pan, or just hold it at an angle over a dish while you grate, and you don’t need to take up any additional counter space do it! If I wanted to grate huge quantities of food, like multiple heads of cabbage for making sauerkraut or kimchi, I might still break out the food processor, but for 99% of what I need, this handheld grater is so much easier to use! I’d much rather grate a 2 lb block of cheese with this than break out the food processor, swap out the blade for a shredding disc, then deal with clean up of the food processor bowl, cover, food pusher and grating disc (that also would take up a lot of real estate inside the dishwasher). This thing is razor SHARP, so it makes grating much easier than an old fashioned type grater because you don’t have to use as much force. I don’t have the strength I used to have, so I’m thankful for this. You might want to use a cut proof glove for grating, or at least pay very close attention, especially if you’re accustomed using an older style grater. I’ve shredded sharp cheddar cheeses, softer Muenster and Colby cheeses, and it does an excellent job at creating long shreds. Softer cheeses can benefit from a few minutes in the freezer before shredding, but I’ve never had any issues. Clean up with a dish sponge or brush is easy, as long as you clean up soon after using. Just make sure to clean and dry “with the grain” of the shredding holes, and not against, or you’ll shred your sponge or dish towel. I don’t put mine into the dishwasher because I don’t place my expensive knives in there, either. It might be fine to do this once in a while, but I still don’t, since the high heat and detergent chemicals are not exactly the best for sharp blades. This is much easier to clean than the box graters I’ve had, because it was always a pain to reach up I inside to get them thoroughly clean. Love this! I’ll probably purchase additional Microplane graters at some point, to have a variety of shred sizes to choose from. Professional chefs use this style and brand for VERY good reason! ... show more

  • Works great, but the cover…
Style Name: Fine
I have an old microplane with a cover that slides easily on and off. This one does not. It’s much too finicky to want to mess with. But the plane itself is great.

  • So far, so good.
Style Name: Fine
We got this one to replace the other one with the plastic frame. We had broken two of those. Hopefully, this one will hold up better. We often use it to grate ginger, and it is working well thus far.

  • This thing is super sharp
Style Name: Ultra Coarse
I cut myself on this not once, not twice, but three times! Please be careful using. It’s definitely sharp!

  • Best of the Small Graters
Style Name: Fine
I used to swear y my old Microplane rasp grater, but I never did like how narrow it was or the curved sides. I finally got around to trying a flat, wider "Microplane-style" grater, but it did not do a very good job at all (not sharp, not sturdy). So, I went back to the true Microplane, and I couldn't be happier. This grater makes quick, clean, and easy work of zesting, grating ginger or garlic, grating nutmeg or cinnamon, and any other job I ask of it. ... show more

Style Name: Extra Coarse
I love this because it is so easy to use, easy to clean and this is the second size I bought because I like it so much
