I have purchased so many zesters over the years and none of them were great at zesting lemons or oranges for me. I even have a separate zester attachment for a $200 mandoline slicer that is not very effective at zesting lemons. Frustrated, I watched America's test kitchen to see what they were recommending. They rated this product the best in the zester category. I decided to take the plunge, and give this one a try. They were spot on with their recommendation of this product. It does a great job grating the skin of lemons. The teeth are very sharp and fine. The product itself is very sturdy with heft. Because it is well constructed, the product is economical. I do not think I will be needing to purchase any other grater for years to come. It has made the task of zesting lemons easy for me. It is so much better than any of the other lemon zesters I have tried using over the years. Before purchasing this item, I had been regulated to using a sharp knife to remove the peel, and then I would scrape the white bitter part from the underside of the peel, and then finely chop the peel; a very time consuming process. I love microplane graters for zesting. I bought this one to replace one that was 12 years old. They do get dull after a while, so I'd probably replace them every five years or so. They're easy to use for zesting citrus fruits or grating everything from frozen ginger (I don't bother fresh anymore) to garlic to parmesan cheese. To clean, just run a sponge in the direction of the rasps under running water - do not try to grate the sponge by going against the rasps! The one issue with any of these style of graters is that they're so effective it's easy to grate your fingernails or fingers. Don't let kids play with them. They're deceptively sharp! ... show more

I’m not a super experienced zester, but if you never zest citrus or rely on a box grater, this thing will change your life. It’s so easy and super efficient. It easily gets all the zest off the fruit without getting any of the bitter pith. It’s quick and easy and, when paired with a juicer, it will revolutionise your use of lemons and limes. It also can be used to easily grate cheese or spices. The cleaning concerns mentioned in other reviews are real, but not that big a deal. I recommend rinsing it and giving it a light wash immediately after using. I love the fresh taste of lemon zest, but not the thick often bitter texture & taste from graters digging too deep instead of just skinning the bright yellow surface with the bright lemony flavor. I love that it is made out of high quality stainless and comes with a sturdy guard to protect all those tiny cutting surfaces and my hands. After a couple of years of using our original Microplane Premium Classic Series Zester Grater, it finally became too dull to use effectively. Looking for a deal, I saw the 4 piece grater and zester set from Cambom. It turned out that none of the pieces worked very well. I ended up ordering another Microplane because we were so happy with the first. So far, it hasn't let us down. It has been perfect for zesting citrus and shredding hard cheeses.
