  • Practical and functional anemometer!
This anemometer has been very satisfactory in my experience. In my case, its usefulness has been to check the wind speed for setting up tents for student meetings. We used to realize that the wind was too strong only when we tried to install the tents. It was a big surprise to discover the variations in wind speed (which in the evening come from the desert), ranging from 12 miles per hour to an average of 22 miles per hour and gusts of up to 36 miles per hour. So, when we have these fluctuations, it's better to avoid installing any type of tent for safety reasons. We made the decision to hold the meetings indoors in a classroom instead. As for the physical state of the anemometer, it has 5 types of measurements: 1. Meters per second, 2. Kilometers per hour, 3. Feet per minute, 4. Knots, and 5. Miles per hour. It also measures air temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. One thing that caught my attention is that the device's rotor head can be rotated so that you always have the screen facing you. It's a good anemometer, and above all, it's very easy to transport as it has many features packed into a compact size, making it convenient for transportation. ... show more

  • Cool, but don't lose the screw!
This unit comes with batteries that you have to install: WARNING!!! The screw that secures the battery-access panel is tiny and is NOT secured to the access panel, which means you will drop it and spend an hour looking for it like I did. If you are outside when you need to change batteries and drop it, forget about trying to find it. They should have added a washer that secures the screw to the panel, or at least included another screw instead of a cheap screwdriver (that you will misplace later). Otherwise, I like this unit; it is lightweight and easy to use, and the maximum wind setting will tell you what the top speeds are without the need to watch it constantly. Another reason I couldn't give it five stars (besides the battery door screw) is they don't explain the "level" function at all. Perhaps it's a meteorologist term, and I'm not one so I shouldn't understand, but I'd like some explanation of just what that means. That is a minor detail, and it doesn't affect my usage, so it isn't worth knocking down the review anymore. My only "wish" for this product is that it had a hook, clip, or pole to attach it to. I plan on using it at my pickleball court and it would be nice to set it up somewhere to monitor the wind speeds, instead of holding it in my hand. I'll have to jury-rig something instead. ... show more

  • A Small, Very Accurate Anemometer
First, the battery cover is held down by a small Phillips type screw. The manufacturer does include a small Phillips head screwdriver and a set of batteries in the packaging, but if you don't have it, or a Leatherman style tool, or any other sort of Phillips head screwdriver out in the field while camping or whatever, you are out of luck if your batteries die. That annoyance aside, the meter is accurate against more expensive, specialized meters to within one or two MPH. So I have no issue with its accuracy. It's unfortunate that it will only read wind speed up to 67 MPH, but I suppose once the wind exceeds that speed you have other problems than a meter that will read no higher. The meter will give its readings in five different units of measure: m/s (meter per second, km/h (kilometers per hour) ft/min ( feet per minute) knots, mph (miles per hour), as well as displaying the current temperatures in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. A simple press of the "Units/Power" button will switch the displayed units. To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, the meter must be off and then you will hold the MAX/LEVEL button while turning on the unit and the device will shift from Celsius to Fahrenheit (or vice versa) depending on what mode it was it when last powered off. I am very happy with the meter and I would recommend it to anyone needing an inexpensive anemometer for metering wind speed. ... show more

  • It measures air flow!
This little anemometer does what is supposed to. Orient the fan towards the air stream you want to measure, and choose your inputs. It appears to give reasonable values, and there does not seem to be any delay in the reading as air speed changes. The unit is compact, and the head swivels 90 degrees, so you can orient the display towards you no matter the direction of the wind. I wanted this to assess my furnace filter condition. My filter gets clogged up pretty quick, and it's really hard to tell it's dirty visually. A baseline measurement of the furnace intake speed with a new filter can be compared with future readings to determine, without removing the filter, if it's time to change it. I'm not a fan of the screwed shut battery compartment, but that's minor. Overall, I'm very pleased with this air speed meter. ... show more

  • Easy to use, a couple big advantages
Right away, this anemometer has a couple of big advantages: a rotating fan head, and it takes AAA batteries instead of C3032. I checked it against the Kestrel 2000, an expensive unit known for accuracy, and found the Mestek AM10 within a couple of units, both in wind speed and temperature. I would consider it pretty accurate, certainly within the recreational margin of error for an inexpensive handheld unit. It is a couple of inches longer than the Kestrel and other units which use a C3032 battery, for obvious reasons. Thoughful of the manufacturer to include a small Phillips head screwdriver for the battery case, although you should be warned that the tiny screw holding the battery cover on is not anchored, so it can disappear on you if you're not careful. ... show more

  • Phenomenal until you get super high speeds
Powers on easy. I didn't have any trouble with the screw on the back like some people here have had. Reading is pretty straightforward. Useful!
