  • Perfect for my needs
Picked this up after recently buying a used Cadillac ELR. The 12 amp portable charger that comes with the ELR (same as the Chevy Volt) takes up to 12 hours to charge the small battery from 0 to full. Not a huge deal, charging it overnight isn’t an issue for me, but I was getting fairly tired of unpacking and stowing the portable charger daily (I know, 1st world problem). So after some looking around decided to give this small charger a look since I don’t exactly need anything big or powerful. Getting a 10 30 NEMA receptacle installed was pretty simple, small investment with an electrician and thankfully my house breaker panel had plenty of space and ability to handle the double pole breaker that connected to the receptacle. I kept it close to the panel to save on expense and everything worked out well once it was installed (see pictures). Once the charger arrived installing all the pieces was super simple, I mounted everything to the studs on either side of my electrical panel after some fiddling and measuring (I got the 25 foot version, where I have it mounted lets me park the car in the garage or either side of the driveway and still reach the driver’s side charge port on my ELR), I got it all together, plugged it in and checked the myCadillac app to see how long the charge would take (it was at 0). 4 hours I actually got in the car to check the dashboard and confirmed the app report. It cut the charge time by 2/3rds. Couldn’t be happier with that result. The plug is snug and secure in the car and the cable is nice and stout but easy to coil up and hang with the handy little hang hook. This is billed as a portable charger but the nice case and box that came with it will likely reside in my garage and the charger itself will stay on my wall. The portable charger in the car is adequate for traveling and there’s always the gas engine in the car so I’m more than happy with this small investment. One oddity, the charger itself only had one mount point at the top which seemed a bit odd and extending the cable caused the charger to flop around on the wall a bit. I solved it by mounting a single point conduit clamp on the wall to hold the cable down. It’s for sure not a deal breaker, and you may not even ever want to hang it up, but I did. Also the included screws that came with it worked, but I didn’t like how short they were so I used longer drywall screws to screw everything into the walls. The pictures show when I have the charger connected to my car and how I stow it while it’s not in use. I really thought the plug holster was a great idea so the plug tip itself isn’t flopping around somewhere. The screw holes line up with the mounting plate with the hang hook but I wanted the plug higher on the wall so I separated them. Great item, very happy with it. And it came with a one year warranty. Edit: no idea why the pictures are sideways, I tried uploading them twice and then switched to my iPad. They were always turned. Tilt your head to the right. ... show more

  • A Bit Tight Unplugging
Seems to work fine. I like the extra wall mounting hardware provided. The only issue I have is unplugging the charger connection from the car. It is too snug and takes some pulling and twisting. Car is BMW 45e.

  • got tired of waiting 10-12 hours for my 530E to charge so I bought this
I have a new 530E that uses a 110V charger that comes with the car. The BMW supplied charger charges the car in 10-12 hours. Basically if we drove during the day and came home to charge, we could not get a half a charge by later in the afternoon. This unit is just ticket, It charged the 9.2KW battery in the 530E from E to 100% in ~ 2.5 hours It clearly does charge at the 3.8KWhr(16 amp on each 120 leg) . The plug fits perfectly , snaps in and locks and you can press the release button just like the factory charger.. It also stays locked in when the car is locked just like the bmw supplied charger does . When plugged in the cars LED first flashed Yellow, then blue for a while then went solid green indicating it was done. This can plug into any standard dryer outlet (nema 10-30) if you have one available.. As I did not have a 240V Nema 3 outlet in the garage I had to install one. The install was fairly easy as I have ran many electrical circuits in my life I bought a 30 amp breaker for $10 at the local box store, a 4"x4"x 2.5 inch 2 gang electrical box for $3 and a Nema 10-30 receptacle ($6). Using spare 10AWG wire I had lying around and 1/2 inch conduit clamp, I installed a dedicated circuit by the fuse panel in the garage in about 2.5 hours(most time was finding tools). Please note from reading BMW info their charger and car charges at around 10-12 amps on the 15Amp connector when set to slow charge(~1.2-1.4KW/hr). I had to reconfigure the BMW to or Max charge which allows the 16 AMP charge rate at 240V.(3.8KW/hr) The only issue I have with this unit was there were only 7 screws and molly bolts instead of 8 for the number of holes. The molly bolts are also cheap plastic semi square that does not work for sheetrock at all. I replaced these some blue spread plastic sheetrock screw sets you can get at your box store. I will now wait over time to see how reliable this unit is. Upgraded to 5*. I find that the holster to plug the unit into when not using is convenient when mounted over the mounting plate of the cable holder. ... show more

  • Level 1.5 charger
Got the charger for a Tesla model 3. A full charge takes about 20 hours which is more than expected. It is still almost half the time of a level 1 charger but not a third as advertised. However it installed well, works great, and haven't had any issues with it. Worth the money!

  • still working after more than 4 1/2 years
This EV charger is still going and charging my I3 since Nove 2018. Plug to an used dryer outlet and working every night ever since. If you an unused dryer outlet, go with this one. I got 13 miles/hour so not bad at all.

  • It was ok…until it wasn’t.
I purchased the charger in July 2022 and it charged great until it stopped working recently. The charger has ALWAYS been hard to insert and eject from the charging port on the car. Most recently, after it failed to charge a couple of times, the charger was pretty stuck in the port. I yanked and I pulled for a good 10 minutes until I was able to pry it free. Needless to say, you probably shouldn’t waste your time with this charger. ... show more
