I followed directions to a T, soaking each seed the correct amount of days before planting. Nothing grew. I used a spray bottle to keep the top 1/2 inch of soil damp. All mildew. It is gross.     • Skip the directions and it's great!
TLDR: toss directions and Google the proper germination methods for success. After reading everyone's reviews (after buying this for my wife), I made a great discovery. Throw the directions in the trash. We looked up specific germination methods for each seed type on Google and have been following those, none of which are the same as the boxed directions. Some of these seeds take multiple months to germinate after tricking them with your fridge. We're on day 5, started germinating 4 Acacia seeds, and 3 are already growing roots and ready to transfer to a pot. The wooden box clearly says don't put your dirt directly in it (then it won't fall apart like the reviews). Overall it's pretty good. More, correct directions would be great but this is only a "starter" kit, not the two years down the road and ready for trimming kit. ... show more

I'm no stranger to gardening, tho' I've never tried Bonsai. Only one seed germinated out of the entire kit. I followed the instructions on the seed packets exactly, letting them soak for as long as the packets said. Planted the seeds in the soil and pots provided. It has been a month since I planted them & only one seed, an acacia, germinated. No other instructions are included in the kit, and the tools provided are useless for bonsai.
