  • Great floor bed
if your going for a traditional Japanese floor bed this would be it. its not crazy soft like bed but does give some softness to sleeping on the floor if thats what you either need to do or want to do. My body doesnt or hurt from sleeping on it .Dont get me wrong this bed isnt for everyone since its not exactly a normal bed since it is a bit firm when sleeping on the floor. Comparing to a regular bed its why some review are complaining about it. I love it and its exactly what i needed. ... show more

  • READ BEFORE YOU BUY!
Let me give some details on the condition and what it was like sleeping on it: 1. The Mattress itself was fine (I GUESS), but the cover was frayed and jacked up. 2. Mattress feels just like someone threw it in the washer, and then dried it on high in their dryer. It's not soft and plush, its kind of firm and low quality feeling. I'm not even sure that this mattress wasn't used before we ordered it. If you were hoping for something soft and easily foldable, this isn't it. It doesn't fold or roll up easy or well. The thickness is fine I guess but it really just isn't as plush and comfy looking as the pictures show. To contrast my "3 in" (more like 1 and a half inch) down mattress topper is soft easily foldable and doesn't provide much support. In the middle of the mattress is where you will have to sleep because there is a weird division between the middle and sides of the mattress. If you're buying this for two then get a more traditional configured "shikibuton" that has the same consistency throughout the whole mattress. My wife and I got the queen. 3. Sleeping on the mattress: I slept on top of the mattress and a pillow topper for a queen bed. I had a great nights sleep. I woke up feeling rested. BUT sleeping on the floor isn't actually comfortable comporable to a high quality regular mattress. So if you're looking to jump into a traditional Japanese way of sleeping for comfort, you're in it for the wrong reason IMO. If you eat a whole pizza by yourself it will be delicious but you'll feel terrible after. If you eat some unseasoned salmon, rice, and kale it won't taste great but you'll feel great! I like to think of soft plush mattresses as a pizza and a Japanese floor mattress as the kale and salmon. After quite a bit of research let me give you my conclusion regarding the decision to floor sleep. There are a lot of people including Chiropractors (pretend doctors), zen gurus, minimalistic people, and environmental conservationist who say floor sleeping is great for you. You'll see people saying that sleeping on the floor cured their incurable back pain etc etc.... I've also watched Doctors, primarily physical therapists discuss floor sleeping.. In a nutshell: Floor sleeping is great for some people and for others it's not. If you're curvier than usual, overweight, or have some condition floor sleeping may not be for you OR you may have to compensate with some additional pillows to support the hips, lower back, neck etc..... It's great for space if you're willing to give your "shikibuton" the care and attention it needs. We cleaned out or room and redecorated to a simpler more traditional japanese style bedroom. I like it! My wife says she feels like we're college students, LOL. The idea of minimalism can be kind of exhausting, but so is have a ton of stuff and clutter.... overall I think its pretty cool. My wife is recovering from a C-Section and she has trouble getting on and off the floor. We will probably transition back to a normal mattress until she is recovered. I'm giving this mattress two stars due to the frayed jacked up cover, the feel of the mattress, and its overall low quality. It does provide more support than I anticipated, which is a good thing - Hence the two stars. ... show more

  • Get a 6 inch foam to put under it.
They are a little too thin but if you get a 6 inch foam under them, they work great. 3 years later and they are still being used.

  • Highly recommend
Let me start of with this, ignore the negative reviews majority of them are complaining about it not being soft but that’s the whole point with a Japanese futon. I have been switching to a minimalist life style and have always been interested in Japanese culture. After months of bailing out on getting one I decided to give this a try. I have suffered from back pain for the past 17 years and after sleeping on this for a month I can tell a huge difference literally to the point where I was crying about the relief on top of that being able to fold it allows to save up a lot of space. I am moving to a studio apartment at the end of the month so that will help a lot. These beds aren’t for everyone but if you are on the fence I highly advise that you go ahead and click the buy now button. I will say however that I will eventually get a higher quality one in the near future but as of now I love it. ... show more

  • Not like it's picture, but not bad either.
Bought this bed because I have pretty bad back pain, and have had several people suggest sleeping on the floor with a mat, even my dad, who has scoliosis has suggested it. My two sons also like to sleep with their daddy and I, so our old queen was running out of room. I ordered two fulls and it gives us plenty of room. Last night was the first night sleeping on them, so it's hard to say if it's helped my back yet. The kiddos slept really well on them, and I know I did less tossing and turning, so I'll give it an A+ there. So far the only thing I'd kinda complain about is they don't look like as full as their picture. They do come with a sheet you can zip on which I adore because I had a 13in queen memory foam mattress that didn't puff up right so sheets just would not stay on it. They fold up fairly easy, so if you want to fold them up during the day so you have more space you definitely can. ... show more

  • Comfortable
I bought this for when family sleeps over. My sister, nieces and nephews like it. They are able to sleep through night on this may and It’s comfortable but I would have liked it to be a little thicker. Just my preference.

Who this bed is good for!? -a realistic person! you want correct posture and good spine health you will have to adjust! this isn't foam marshmallow(that's what is giving you problems in the first place) - I weigh 180lbs and am a body builder within a few days my lower back problems are no more -minimalist easy to roll up who this bed is not good for! -a person who wants it for its novelty and not the benefits -a person who is morbidly obese or has disabilities getting up (obvi you should know this) -a person who wants a marshmallow feel OVERALL I AM SATISFIED BACK PAIN IS GONE! IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT I recommend a base pad of foam along with this mat your spine will thank you! MY ONLY GRIPE! why it didn't get 5 stars it should have included something to tie the bed if you roll it up when you mop sweep or vacuum! DONT ATTACH FABRIC TO CORNERS SINCE THE WEAR WILL UNDOUBTELY RIP I SUGGEST SOMETHING TO HOLD IT TOGETHER WHEN ITS ROLLED UP! ... show more
