Started using these many years ago after spending so much time trying to get the mildew odor out of regular sponges. Tried washing by hand, in the dishwasher, and microwaving -- none of that lasted very long. These sponges are absorbent but do leave some water behind when wiping a countertop, so always have a towel or paper towels ready to wipe off excess if needed. I keep using these because they last longer than other sponges since I don't have to worry about any odor build-up.
