  • Works with Apple HomeKit
There are other versions of this smart plug on Amazon, however this appears to be a newer version that uses the Matter protocol. Consequently, this device connects directly to your smart home hub, and doesn't require a stand-alone app for use. Set-up is straight forward. Plug in the device, press the power butter to start the sync mode, then use your smart home app to add the device to your smart hub. I'm using HomeKit on an Apple 4K TV, and it worked flawlessly. The power button can also be used as a manual ON/OFF switch (they never mention this is the manual.). Once the device is set up, it can be unplugged and moved to another location without losing the programming. I'm using this plug to control outdoor lights, and there is no problem with signal strength out in my yard. My only minor complaint is the manual. The manufacturer is in China, and the manual has the typical odd grammar that can be confusing. The manual never mentions that you have to plug in the device to start the programming (obvious to most, but never stated). Also you need a QR code to add the the device to your hub. The code is located on the side of the device, and can be hard to access when it's plugged in. I actually took a photo of the QR code, and then used the photo when I added the device. It would be nice if there were copies of the QR code with the packaging. There are additional QR codes on the box and in the manual, however these are not the codes you need to sync the plugs, which can be confusing. PROS: Small size, easy setup, uses Matter protocol to connect to Apple HomeKit and other smart hubs. Doesn't require a separated stand-alone app for set-up CONS: Requires a separate smart hub for use. The manual can be confusing. ... show more

  • Easily Paired with Alexa, Controlled with Routines
This is my first set of smart plugs, and I'm quite happy with them. I'm often working in my upstairs office at home until after sunset, so I like having Alexa (Amazon Echo, 5th Generation) turn on some lights downstairs to more safely light my way. I have a couple of lights in different rooms that cannot accept smart bulbs, so I'm using these smart plugs to turn them on at sunset using Alexa Routines, and they work well. Echo generations 4 and 5 act as a Matter hub, so no other hub is needed. These EIGHTREE Matter Smart Plugs don't have a propriety app or hub, which I really like. To set them up with Alexa, I first paired them with my phone through Bluetooth, then connected them to Alexa by scanning the QR code on the side of the plug. It was pretty easy following the user guide provided with the plugs, and it took about 15 minutes to set up both plugs. In addition to a couple of smart bulbs, Alexa now controls these plugs to help brighten my downstairs, welcoming me home from work each evening. The relatively large size of these round plugs allow access to the second plug in a wall outlet, but just barely. These two plugs could not be used together within one outlet, nor could another oversized plug be used adjacent to one of them, so plan accordingly. My home just got a little smarter, thanks to these Eightree plugs. Geez, next it'll want the keys to the car. ... show more

  • Easily incorporated into Google Home ecosystem
I own several smart plugs and this pair is one is one of the easiest to incorporate into our Google smart home ecosystem. Since an additional app wasn’t needed to use, I simply went to my Google Home app and added it using the QR code on the side of each plug. I did have to pair the second plug twice as it kept showing it as offline after the initial pairing. After the second attempt, it successively paired and I was ready to use it. I like the compact footprint but o wish it was a little flatter. Still, it’s small enough to not cover the other outlet. ... show more
