  • Awesome unit
Size: 30 - 50 Gallon Aquarium, 200 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
My filtration unit (Penguin 275) died and I got this more powerful one from Amazon before 10:00 pm the same day! I’ve used these for a long time and I’m a big fan. On this unit the Biowheel ran and it turned fast! For two days. Now it’s stopped. And the overflow is NOT engaged (the filter is NOT clogged and impeding the flow). Strong flow. But wheel won’t turn. But wait… I cleaned off the debris from the intake pipe and it’s running fast again. This is a great powerful unit. I also hacked the disposable filter cartridge. I cut open the top and stuff extra carbon in it. I’ve always done that with great success in terms of happy healthy fish. Lots of green plants. I mean a TON of plants. Lots of scavengers (I have two HUGE Dojo Weather Loaches and 3 Cory Catfish). Lots of fresh activated carbon to keep the water pristine. I haven’t seen a single blip of fungus ever in almost 3 years. ... show more

  • Works fine after Getting it to work
Size: 10-20 Gallon, 100 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
Took me a while to figure out how to get it to work. I'm expecting things to click into place and hold solidly. Took several tries of taking it apart and putting it back together. Thought maybe I needed to put more water in it but that wasn't the case. Once I got it working it works fine. Quiet too. This was the model 100 for a 10 gallon tank for plants ... show more

  • You can add xtra filter cartridges
Size: 50 - 75 Gallon Aquarium, 350 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
Great filter. It comes with to filter cartridges but you can purchase 2 additional cartridges and use a total of 4 for extra filtration. We went on vacation for 2 weeks and cleaned all the algae off the glass and this filter had the water looking crystal clear in less than 24hrs

  • Great hong on back filter
Size: 30 - 50 Gallon Aquarium, 200 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
I bought this as a replacement for my other penguin filter that after almost 5 years of almost continuous use ( maintenance on tank or power outages is only time it’s been shut off) it finally gave out. I could’ve probably replaced the motor , but just easier to buy another and keep all the other pieces in case of “ emergencies “ . I highly recommend this filter if you’re considering a hang on back . Even if you have a canister you can use this to clear up water after medicating the tank or trying to fix an issue. I use a sponge , bio media in bags and seachem purigen ( when needed) I have filter pad in a case that’s made to slide down into filter . ... show more

  • Works great! removes tank cloudiness
Size: 30 - 50 Gallon Aquarium, 200 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
Works as described, upon installation I had to clean the filter daily as there was a lot of debris in the water, a few days later I didn’t need to clean the filter very often and the filter very quickly removed bad smell and cloudiness in water. Used in a 20 gal with 4 small turtles.

  • Fantastic FIlter
Size: 20 - 30 Gallon Aquarium, 150 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
My 25 gallon tank has had "yellow" water since I moved into my apartment 2 years ago. I've been through 4 filters (The last 2 were awful and kept "dying" and having to be restarted manually with a flush of water). This one had the water clear in 3 days and is running strong.

  • How to rebuild impellers and never not buy one again!
Size: 10-20 Gallon, 100 GPH Pattern Name: Filter
If you are hearing a lot of rattling or rumbling noise from the filter, or it is just loud and the loud is not a water sound, its probably a worn out rod. What happens is the impeller spins millions of revolutions over time and wears out the stainless steel rod. You would notice that there is some play in between the hole of the impeller and the shaft. There should be no play. If you have a magnifying glass of a jewelers loop you would be able to see the rod getting thinner the closer it is to the impeller. You can replace that rod for a lot less than buying a new one. Here's what you need to do. 1. Get some needle nose plyers and pinch the rod just below the end cap, if the end cap is at 12:00, have the end of the plyers at 4:00, and then pivot the plyers up to 2:00 and this should push the cap off. 2. Remove the shaft, at this point there would be the other end cap on the other end of the shaft. 3. At this point you can do 1 of 2 things, get some Vaseline like others have said and cover the shaft in it and put it back together (this will get you by for maybe a few days) OR 3b. Go out and buy 2.5MM stainless steel rods on amazon, they come in 10 packs 300 mm long so you could make 30 of them if you needed to. ($9.99) 4. Use your old shaft to determine the right length and cut exactly to that length using cutters and a grinder or dermal tool to smooth it off. Just make sure the length is right. 5. Use Vaseline on the rod and put it back together with the end caps on the ends. You will have plenty of material left over for additional shafts. Takes about 20 minutes but I promise you will never have to spend $30 on a Marineland PRIM350B 350b Impeller again ... show more
