Exactly what we needed- something with an extra large shade, a heavy/solid/sturdy base, and a far reach over the sectional sofa. Because of the height no one bumps into it with their head when walking around, sitting down or standing up. This would easily be five stars BUT the adjustable arch was a bit of a pain because we had a hard time getting it to move. Finally got got it moved, and having that feature is great to be able to make it work perfectly for the space. As others have mentioned the on/off switch is a pedal on the floor by the base, but we solved that problem by using an Alexa Smart Bulb, so now we can turn it on/off, dim or brighten it without even getting up 😂🤷🏼♀️…gotta love modern technology. ... show more

This is a very nice lamp. Well made, sturdy and elegantly functional. However, to assemble and have it work properly you need to know two things. 1st: There is a nylon fitting at the insert end of the small (top) pole. Its a little bit too tight fitting to slide in easily. I found that after I carefully sanded the outer surfaces, it fit into the middle pole better, and was easier to slide into the position desired. 2nd: In order to do the sliding into position, you need to (gently and carefully) pull the lamp cord slack, out from the very bottom of the base pole, to allow room for the top pole to be adjusted. Read the entire instruction before assembly. Very important: the instructions say to "untighten" the adjusting nut to move the arch pole. I found it much easier to completely unscrew the adjusting nut, and move it away, to adjust the top pole. Once you have the top pole where you want it, replace the adjusting nut to hold it in place. ... show more

So, the box is heavy due to the huge marble base. Unbox everything, all parts are attached to the places they belong. Find a clean surface to put your lamp shade together first. The shade itself comes rolled up. There are 3 circular rings. One helps filter the light, one is for the top of the shade where it hangs from the pole and the other, simplest ring holds the shape of the shade at the bottom. There are little clips all around the inside, top/bottom of shade to attach the two metal hard metal rings but attach the bottom one first, then place the filter inside to rest on that ring, then install the top ring. Line up the velcro ends of the shade and press together, try to get this right the 1st time as the velcro holds very tightly. Set the shade aside and work on the pole, on the floor. Because I was by myself, I propped the marble base up against my couch so I could install the bottom pole into the base. There is a large flat silver washer that goes on the TOP of the base where the pole will sit. There are two other washers and an nut to secure the pole to the base from the UNDERSIDE of the base and do this with the bent wrench provided. It is important to understand that the cord can be pulled out at the hole near the bottom of the pole near the base as you are adjusting the top pole length. Once the bottom is secure, move on to the adjustable pole, keeping the pole aligned on the half circle on the floor while you work. There are two screws attached that you will need to line up the adjustable poles and screw in with YOUR Phillips head screw driver. The poles will be fully extended once you have pulled them all together and if you want to shorten the extender pole, remember that to do this you must pull the cord out near the base. If you decide after shortening that you want it to be extended out again, then push the cord back up into the pole a little at a time till you can find the proper adjustment. ... show more

This is probably the best product I have ever purchased from a Chinese manufacturer. Easy assembly and beautiful look. It solved our lighting problem instantly. I had to place a 3/8” thick shim under the front edge of the base because on thick carpet, it had a tendency to lean forward, lowering the shade. No problem at all.
