I actually like the flow it puts out and it's small size. What I dislike is the app. It is not user friendly and sometimes has a mind of its own. The cyclic wave patterns frequently caused it to stall out at lower speed even though I kept it very clean. I basically paid the extra $$ to have a Bluetooth programmable wave maker, but due to the frequent frustration just run it in manual on high. If I had known, I would have saved some money. This is one of the more expensive wave makers in the market, but when it's frustrating to use those extra bells and whistles that cost extra...is it really worth it? ... show more

Great design. Small and unobtrusive, quiet. Fantastic flow for its size. Comes with three grills so that you can have wide, medium or jet flow path. Really nice that it also has accessories for cord management - suction cups, and adhesive cord clips. On top of that thoughtful design. The cord length is great. Allows you to hang the unit underneath your aquarium stand on the little hanger (included) but still easily grab it off the hanger and pull it out to adjust the flow settings. The control unit has a little blue light to show you when it is connected to Bluetooth, a tiny red light that flashes when it receives a Bluetooth signal, and bigger blue lights up the center that show you the flow strength. So nice to be able to so easily turn the power up or down to adjust the strength of the current! And you can easily manually toggle between the flow strength and wave settings if you want to. Nice when you are doing maintenance and don’t have your phone handy. The app is straightforward- connects immediately. Has a timer controller feature too! Bluetooth is solid, even with the unit closed into an aquarium stand. After a power outage it goes right back to its last setting. The only thing that might be a drawback depending upon your application is that the suction cup design that fixes the unit onto the interior magnet may limit how steep an angle you orient it to. With all suction cups firmly on the back of the unit you can get only about a 20 degree up or 20 degree down angle. If you angle it more steeply onto the base all the suction cups won’t be properly seated. You can still get a bigger angle, it just won’t be as securely fastened.     • Great when it works
I've had this wavemaker in my closet for several months as I was waiting for the right time to set it up on my reef tank. It's a 4 gallon pico. Build quality is good and the magnet is strong. The features are also good and allows for a variety of flow patterns and intensity. However, the app is meh. It's not intuitive and you have to fiddle with the app in order for your settings to take effect. As in, the settings are set, but the hardware is not doing what you want it to do. I'm in tech, so going about the troubleshooting in a systemaic way was helpful, but for a non-techy person the troubleshooting will be a pain. When the product and app works, it is freaking awesome for the money paid. But the app is too finicky and the hardware itself failed on me in just 6 weeks of use. Started the warranty inquiry now. The wave maker arrived well packaged inside its box with the wavemaker, mounting magnet, control unit, power adapter and assorted accessories to adjust the flow pattern along with installation instructions. Installation is easy but I would recommend reading the instructions to understand at which position the unit should be fixed under the water surface. The unit itself with the included accessories are well made and do not look or feel cheap. It is solid plastic with a smooth finish. The operation is straightforward. I had it running in no time. The control unit may be more than enough for some freshwater setups with 3 different modes and varying intensity levels that can be controlled by the press of a button. The app is simple and straightforward too. It adds more wave patterns and features that are more suited to a saltwater setup. I used the app as well, but for my freshwater setup the control unit is sufficient. The wavemaker is installed in a 90 cm freshwater aquarium. I have less filtration at the substrate level so this wavemaker helps stir up the substrate, so the filters can pick up any detritus or fish waste. This helps keep the water clean, so my water changes are effective. The wavemaker is very very quiet and quite powerful for its size. I had it running on the lowest setting and it worked great. One consideration however, if you have nano fish or tiny shrimp, you may want to be cautious because the grill holes can easily suck in the fish or shrimp. I used the wavemaker at the surface at times too to agitate the surface and provide better gas exchange since I inject CO2 in my tank. Overall, it’s a great product and I recommend it. ... show more
