  • Best small Mac keyboard to go "battery free"
Color: White
In recent years, I've used many Mac keyboards -- Apple, Logitech solar-powered, Logitech rechargeable, and several wired keyboards with a keypad. All of them sooner or later left me frustrated. Logitech's batteries wear down in a matter of months. The solar keyboard is no longer really available (except on the secondary market). And I just got tired of the "your keyboard has died, change the batteries again" routine. Unfortunately I could never really find a suitable wired replacement, until I tried this keyboard. While it's not perfect, and it felt a little "clacky" when I first started using it, it is nevertheless the best solution if you don't want a full-sized keyboard with keypad crowding your desktop. Pros: * Wired (for me this is a plus) - no more batteries! * Same approximate size, shape, and styling of Apple's official keyboard * Performs reasonably as expected. * No more wrestling with finicky wireless connections or batteries * Price still seems high for machine-molded plastic and some minor electronics, but it's cheaper than competitors. Cons: * Feels a little cheap when you type at first... a little "clickety-clackety" * Keys and typing action are not as nice as Macally's larger keyboards * There is a bright, unnecessary power light at the top of the keyboard. It's distracting, so I taped over it. * Plastic feels sturdy, but cheap Macally also makes a great, low-priced silent wired mouse that is also excellent. Overall I give this keyboard a positive rating because it's the best solution I've found to solve the "stop using batteries" problem. A better keyboard could still be made, but since Apple discontinued their wired products we are left to search for third party providers. All things considered Macally did a credible job of providing a replacement. ... show more

  • For this quality, it should cost a quarter of the price
Color: Silver Aluminum
It's made entirely of plastic and is so light that the keyboard actually flexes and bounces when you type on it. The original Apple keyboard has a metal framework that gives it stability and a bit of weight, but no such luck here. I bought the keyboard with the "aluminum silver finish," but it's just painted on. Seems a rather deceptive description. ... show more

  • Defective product--completely stopped working less than 6 months after purchase
Color: White
I purchased this product just under 6 months ago, and tonight it started turning caps lock off and on by itself, typing in different buttons than I was pushing, and randomly opened my iTunes to a voice recording I had saved. I checked my computers settings and nothing had changed, and I have never dropped or damaged the product in any way. I restarted my computer, and now the product no longer works. I sent a message to the seller to inquire as to whether I can replace the item for free due to it's defectiveness. I hope to hear from them promptly, as this keyboard has functioned fairly will with a few glitches up until this evening. ... show more

  • Good Product
Color: White
I purchased the Macally keyboard to replace a keyboard that was twice as expensive. I wish I’d done this sooner. It was easy to install and after answering a few prompts that automatically appeared on my computer screen, the keyboard was successfully linked to my Macintosh. The keyboard is equipped with blue lights on its upper right corner to indicate when you’re in Caps Lock and when your computer is on (this light goes off when you shut your computer off or when it goes into sleep mode). I particularly appreciate the Caps Lock light. The keyboard is not as quiet as some computer keyboards if this is important to you. It makes a click/clack sound, which I find pleasant and prefer to near silence when typing. ... show more

  • UPDATED review: BAD PRODUCT, doesn't work after 5 months
Color: Silver Aluminum
UPDATED REIEW 5 months later: the space bar and shift bar do not work well. To capitalize, I have to hold the shift key REALLY hard and practically pound into the keyboard. Now I notice that the space bar is also dying and I have to press it really hard. At first I thought I was typing too fast and that was why I had typos. But then I realized what the problem was. Disappointed. 5 months is a ridiculously short shelf life on a product. Original review: Nice compact shape. Keys clack quite a bit and the board is flimsy. There is an odd blue light that stays on while it’s connected, which is not necessary. I tend to keep it connected to my laptop, even when not in use so the blue light gets distracting. Plastic feels cheap and light but I wanted a small size keyboard that fit well tucked under my MacBook stand. Works well for my needs. ... show more

  • Simple and cost effective.
Color: Silver Aluminum
I have an older Mac Book Pro that eventually some of the keys on my keyboard stopped working. For the time being I figured I would try this until the time came to buy a new laptop. Didn't really have high expectations given the great price and due to some reviews. Buut, I was actually impressed! Super thin, light and didnt look cheap at all. Not as quiet as Apples keyboard but still doesnt have that loud clacking sound either. Once plugged in it literally asked me to press a couple of keys and thats it! All connected. You can even dim the screen lighting from the keyboard, definitely recommend. ... show more

  • works fine, but lacks the solid feel of the (more expensive) aluminum Apple keyboards
Color: White
Wanted a small form factor keyboard for my macbooks that come and go from my office and 27" display. I have a full-sized USB keyboard (Apple aluminum) which took up too much desk space. I also own a compact Apple wireless BT keyboard -- which worked fine. However, it was a pain to switch BT connection between my personal and work macbooks on the fly. Seemingly required power cycling of the keyboard, etc and it's a few minute process. Since the keyboard sits on the desk and plugs into my big monitor it does not need to be wireless -- just smaller! I purchased the Macally as it was small and cheap and USB. My only complaint was that it lacks the solid feel of the Apple aluminum body keyboards. Thus, I ended getting the USB Apple keyboard anyway. I'll probably keep this as a backup as it is perfectly fine -- just not enjoyable to type on all day long. I'm a developer -- so lots of hours of typing. Might be that I'm just overly picky about keyboards. ... show more
