Description

The Luna Guitars High-Tide Koa Concert Ukulele aptly takes it's inspiration from the full moon at the first fret which causes the abalone wave fret markers below it to "rise" as they make their way up the fretboard towards the moon's pull. High-Tide ukes are crafted from exotic tropical hardwoods, and the Luna "full moon" sticker inside the soundhole is framed by an abalone ring. This beautiful Luna ukulele features a deep koa body, producing full, deep sound along with the instrument's concert body size. The cutaway offers comfort when accessing the upper-register frets, and the nato/mahogany neck and rosewood bridge and fretboard add lasting sustain and clarity to your tone. The open-style tuners keep the instrument in precise tuning and the on- board preamp provides easy amplification that can be dialed in quickly. Dressed in a satin finish and featuring a rosewood binding, you won't believe your eyes with the ukulele's natural beauty. Just wait 'til you hear it.

  • Great Uke
Size: Concert
I have only been playing the ukulele for a few months but I already have 5 ukes. I spotted this one on Amazon and had to have it. It arrived in Australia within a week however the packaging was very minimal, just the box it came in from the manufacturer with no additional padding or packaging. The box had a scrunched up tear in one area which has caused a slight scratch on the side of the uke, but nothing I can't live with (still disappointing though). It came with Aquila strings which sound great but I thought I'd swap them over to Wurth Clear Flurocarbons and the sound is even more amazing, wonderful warm tones. I would highly recommend this to anybody. It looks amazing and sounds fantastic. Great price too, I have seen this uke in retail music stores in Australia for more than double the price. Updated May 2012: I've had this uke for over a month now and have since purchased a Lanikai Spalted Mango which I thought would become my new favourite but I must say that the Luna High Tide has remained my favourite - the sound on this one is just amazing, especially with the Worth strings. ... show more

  • impressive!!!

I own numerous ukes. It came today in a HUGE box; big enough for 3 ukes - then inside 2 smaller boxes within the large box = well protected. It looked more beautiful in person than in on line images-the wood grain stands out more than in the pictures. I was so surprised by it's good looks I think it actually may be solid Koa as there is controversy it's laminate. It looked/felt pretty real to me & I own other Koa/acadias's. Came with Aquila Nyguts which many mistake as the best strings. After 2 hours of play I can say it sounded better than I thought it would - a little muddy but nothing a set of Worth strings can't brighten up-even sounds sweeter than more expensive A/E models. (trust me I know) A great value for $220! KPK's solid acadia's are superior & their wood stands out more for same/less $$$, however, they don't have an acoustic/electric model so that's why I bought the Luna. KPK's come with Worth strings which I'm sold on. I would definitely recommend this uke to anyone who wants a acoustic/electric model & willing to change strings for more pop. I do not know of a better A/E model-even for $350 as I own one of those & this uke sounds better. Again great value. Dollar for dollar,Luna makes great products! (I also own 2 of their guitars). This could be the last/final A/E model you need in your uke career. (it will be for me) If you can't afford this one, Luna makes a good looking A/E model for approx $120 that also sounds much better than its cost would indicate. (see reviews on that one). ... show more

  • holds tune

Action is much too high....Nice uke except for that. might spend a couple of bucks to get action lowered.

Bought this for my daughter. It is a beautiful little instrument. Sounds and plays very nicely. Would have given it five stars but some of the finishing is just shy of perfect. Fret edges could have been better finished as well as some of the body binding, very minor though!

  • A beautiful ukulele
Size: Concert
The media could not be loaded. The Koa finish and the inlays are beautiful. This is the first instrument I am learning to play, and I’m glad I spent the extra money for this model. Some friends got cheaper ukuleles, and they get out of tune quickly and are just not as pleasant to play. I’m always motivated to pick this up and practice. My only wish is that it had a bolt to place a strap. The ukulele is light enough that I have no problem holding it up without a strap, but, as a beginner, it would put me at ease to know I won’t drop it. ... show more

Koa laminate that looks good and sounds okay. Action is fine but could be tweaked. Inlays are impressive but are cosmetic only and have nothing to with playability or sound. Preamp and pickup work fine but those are the only things that do. The biggest problem with this and most inexpensive dukes is intonation. A beginner may not notice it but it makes them all wonder why the thing sounds out of tune as they play it. On guitars, banjoes, violins, etc., intonation is generally correctable through bridge placement/adjustment. Can't be done on most entry level instruments such as this. I am very disappointed with mine for this reason. Shop around at music shops and research what intonation is. Ask the music shop folks and always carry your Snark tuner to check it yourself. I own several ukuleles and this is next to the bottom when comparing price to quality. My advice is to look elsewhere, try before you buy then come back to Amazon. And stay way from this Luna product. ... show more
