  • She's a dream!
Style: 5-String
She's perfect! I bought this banjo on a whim (of complete infatuation) and I don't regret it. She's beautiful from end to end and was well worth the purchase. I am not well versed on banjos as I am a beginner still, but she's had high praise from musicians that I know. My first banjo didn't have the clear head, so I was really nervous putting the bridge on. The directions are clear but, since this was my first time ever attempting such a feat, I did a quick youtube search for a tutorial. It wasn't too long before I was strumming my 5 string! The sound is great. Loud, crisp and twangy. It blows my older banjo out of the water, especially since that one was old and needing some repair work. Nonetheless, this Luna puts out great sound and is loud when you pick with confidence. Even my neighbor can hear me practicing chords, which I found out at a party we were both at, haha! The fret board inlay is gorgeous and the Celtic design divine. I'd definitely say it's worth the splurge. If anything, it's a very beautiful decoration. Though it deserves to be played! ... show more

  • Terrible company selling Chinese junk!
Style: 6-String
The banjo came completely not set up. The drum was loose and the strings were falling off. This is totally unacceptable from a company that claims to be quality. Since I know how to set banjos up, I just hung my head. I feel sorry for the folks that don’t know. By the way, it’s made in China. Buy a Deering! ... show more

  • Great banjo - lightweight, but wolftones are present.
Style: 6-String
Nice banjo - incredible value for the price. You might want to consider a mute; there are some wolfy overtones on the 4th, 5th and 6th strings, but they are remedied by placing the mute half-on the bridge on the low end. Very light, as far as banjos go, but I wish they included an arm rest. It's a bit comfortable to play without one. Maybe go w/ an archery wrist guard in the meantime... ... show more

  • I google a tutorial and all was good. He was right
Style: 6-String
Different action than I am used to but, due to another reviewer's comments, I was prepared for no instructions on bridge installation and didn't panic. I google a tutorial and all was good. He was right. The strings are awful. I will tackle that later. Nice instrument. Good sound.

  • Almost perfect, tiny flaw
Style: 5-String
I'm absolutely in love with this banjo, it's beautifully made and plays great. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the 10th fret was dead and I had to fix it myself. Don't let this dissuade you though, it's still a fantastic instrument.

  • Do Some Work and it's ok
Style: 6-String
It arrived beautifully packed. The banjo/guitar itself is very light, much more like a guitar than a banjo and that's a good thing. I play both and this is easier to carry around than any banjo I own. When you get it, the bridge is in a packet and there are no instructions on how to place it. That is a real problem for 95% of the people who will buy this. I have experience with banjos and it still took me two hours to get it right. I first loosened the strings and worked the bridge under them. After finding the sweet spot (the harmonics on the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets are the way to know you've set the bridge correctly), I took it all apart again: the strings were just dead and clunky. I put on extra light Martin guitar strings and went through the whole process again. Remember: there is nothing in the package to tell you how to do this. It is unplayable as it arrives -- you have to set it up. I even checked YouTube to see if Luna posted a video how-to and... nothing. With the extra light strings on it, it sounds much better. It takes a long time to tune because tuning one string puts others out until the clear Remo banjo head settles in for the bridge. The nut is a little high, making it harder to hold down the strings on the first two frets. I'll have to deal with that later. For now, I've found that it plays best if you play it like a flatpicked guitar, a mandolin, or an octave mandolin. Using a pick and playing tremolo makes it sound very Celtic... but the left hand has to work hard to get the strings down clearly. Gotta work on that nut... ... show more

  • Fabulous Instrument
Style: 6-String
When it arrived it was packed well. The setup for this instrument was easy. There had been some complaints about the height of the bridge but I think the action is fine and actually did not like the 1/2" bridge as well as the bridge that came with the Banjo. Love the sound and love the looks. The quality of this instrument is amazing; it is absolutely beautiful and sounds as good as it looks. An option for a pick-up with tuner would be the only improvement I would recommend. Luna products rock! ... show more
