  • Good product, Rough Instructions.
Size: 48" x 80" Color: White
The Instructions are rough. I had a hard time following them, so did what any idiot with testosterone would do. I looked at the picture on the box. The install did go smoothly and it looks great. Mission accomplished.

  • Not Great, but Good Enough
Size: 48" x 80" Color: Oak
I needed two of these doors to close off a wide square archway into my basement. I was surprised to find two very different boxes delivered; both roughly the same length but one box was easily twice the volume of the other -- and yet the packaging inside each box was identical. The smaller box showed some damage along one edge, and some of the plastic components of the door were splintered when I unwrapped it. I was surprised to also find some noticeable cracking of plastic components on the other door as well, despite the box looking OK. During assembly, I also encountered a few bad "rubs" and scrapes of the wooden parts of both doors, in both cases on the edge where it would be attached to the wall so I didn't mind too much... but was still glad these doors were merely part of pet-proofing my basement and thus the cosmetic damage didn't really matter. It took me a couple of run-throughs of the instructions to figure out how things went together, but as soon as the logic "clicked" in my mind it was a relatively easy process. The plastic trackways that the doors hang from were too long for the opening but cut very easily with a dollar store hacksaw. (I chose to cut a bit off each instead of making one much shorter so I could keep the seam between tracks in the center of the archway where it wouldn't interfere with the doors sliding open & shut.) A quick pass with a small file cleared any plastic burrs created during the cutting process. It was a little difficult putting all the pieces into place for the handles -- a hard rubber mallet (or gentle hand with a regular hammer) is really necessary for this step -- but overall every pre-drilled hole was in the right location and of the right size. The tracks attached to the ceiling as expected, and there were no problems fitting both doors into just one trackway while I screwed the 2nd into place (an issue only affecting dual-door installations). Luckily, none of the cracked or splintered components were critical -- although I did use E6000 glue to repair one particularly nasty crack the night before I mounted the doors just to be sure. They attach to clips that are screwed into the wall on either side, and everything lined up almost perfectly on the first try with just a little extra pre-attachment measuring to be sure. The doors look like... well, hanging accordion doors. They're attractive enough for me to like what I see when I go down to the basement but probably would look out of place in a more elegant or high-end environment. I would've given them a 5-star rating for "Value for money" if they hadn't been delivered with so much damage -- and I remember reading a lot of pre-purchase reviews talking about similar problems so it really is something the manufacturer needs to work on. ... show more

  • A job with obstacles
Let me start with saying I was able to finally get it fully installed. This was a purchase I was excited to get as an easy fix to close a door way that I was using a curtain to keep my animals out. It's packed well but the box it came in had some damage (it survived). The install instructions seemed out of order but that could just be me. I did have to alter the guide stick some to fit my door frame but it's common. However, when it came to screwing down the support frames just about EVERY screw broke at the head once 1/2in in the door frame!! Like really...how do I get those out now! Ugh i sawed the ends sticking out the frame, found some screw in my garage I could use and re-adjusted the frames away from the crappy screws they supplied and secured them. Note: the long single frame you install for the accordion slide door to be secured in when closed is delicate and can crack if not very careful. 3hrs later lol I have it up and so far it's worked good. Keeps my animals out and allowed me to get rid of using a curtain. I would still recommend this product but I wouldn't use their aluminum (what they looked like) screws purchase your own. ... show more

  • Does the job. Could be sturdier.
Size: 48" x 80" Color: White
Well, this was definitely not easy to install, but I'm not the handiest of handymen either. Had to saw the rail down a few inches to get it to fit in our intended entryway, and I overlooked the fact that I was installing it in a hallway - not a door frame with wood to screw into - so we crossed our fingers and screwed everything directly into the drywall. So far it seems to be anchored pretty well and has easily withstood the tension of opening and closing off and on for a few weeks now. My main complaint is that just about everything is made of plastic. I had it leaned up against the wall while I was drilling holes and it fell over (my fault) and one of the plastic handles broke off completely. I would have been happy to have paid a bit more for a unit with metal where it counts, such as handles, trim, and rails. Thankfully my housemate was able to create new (and more robust) handles with his 3D printer :) Overall, this was a relatively low-cost option for what I needed and most of the problems I had were due to oversights and bad luck. The durability of this product is not stellar, but you get what you pay for. ... show more
