  • Passing Along the Tradition
I bought this for my 9-year old to introduce her to the classic Looney Tunes I watched while growing up. It did not disappoint, she loved it. I like the fact that there are episodes with a variety of characters, it reminds me of watching old episodes of "The Bugs Bunny / Roadrunner Show" on Saturday mornings. Every Saturday you would have Bugs, but there would also be other (lesser known) characters mixed in like Claude the Cat. I must say I really enjoyed reading all of the 1-star reviews for this DVD set. One does not often encounter that mixture of sanctimony, selfishness, and utter lack of self-awareness outside of academia or journalism. Understand that none of those reviews are giving 1 star to the product, they just want you to buy the $40 Golden Collection Vol. 1 instead of this $10 collection (which has the same cartoons as the first 2 discs of the Golden Collection) because otherwise Warner Brothers might not release more volumes of the Golden Collection. So you're supposed to shell out $40 for a collection you do not want so that WB will put out other collections in the future that (presumably) you also will not want. But the collectors do want them so you're supposed to suck it up and take one for the team. Some of my favorite highlights: > "This version doesn't have - GASP! - *any* bonus features!" No, it doesn't. You have to consider that some of the people out there might actually be more interested in the cartoons than any bonus features. But it's a valid point: if you're a collector who craves bonus features, this collection is not for you. > "Sure this version is cheaper, but the Golden Collection is an overall 'better value' because of all the bonus features." Well, in the real world people value things differently (this is the fundamental basis of all economic activity: you pay $3 for a gallon of milk because you consider the milk more valuable than the $3. The vendor sells the milk because he/she considers the $3 more valuable than the gallon of milk). This collection has 28 cartoons for roughly $10. The Golden Collection V1 has the same 28 cartoons, plus 28 more, plus a lot of bonus features, for roughly $40. So, accounting for the fact that it has twice as many cartoons, you're still paying about $20 for the bonus features. If you're a collector or film student you may consider that a great deal. If you're not then you might not. I say to each his own. Lecturing people about what they should/should not value is in pretty poor taste, especially considering the self-serving rationale behind the lecture. > "If you can't afford the Golden Collection now then just save up your money and buy the Golden Collection later." Again this goes back to value. Value is different from "ability to afford." I can 'afford' to spend $100 on this DVD set but I would never do it because I don't value it that highly. There are a lot of people willing to spend $10 for this DVD set who would not spend $40 for the Golden Collection. It doesn't mean they don't have $40 to spend, it means they don't value it that highly. Again, I say to each his own. > "If you're going to buy a collection without bonus features why buy the DVD at all? Why not just tape them off TV?" 1. (snicker) Yes, a reviewer really said "tape" them off TV. Maybe it was meant as a subtle jab, like "a Philistine who doesn't want bonus features probably still uses a VCR." But I doubt it. 2. Really? Where? When? They don't show these on TV anymore, at least not with any regularity. 3. Is this really a line of argument a fanboy collector wants to use? "The Simpsons" are shown regularly on FXX, "Buffy," "Angel," "Firefly," "Star Trek," and a bazillion other fanboy favorites are shown regularly in syndication or are available through Netflix or Amazon Prime... are you honestly going to argue with a straight face that you don't have any of those in your DVD collection because "you can just tape them off TV"? My take: If you're looking to relive some of the great WB cartoons of your childhood and/or share them with your kids, you will love this collection. If you're a collector, a super WB fanboy, film student, aspiring cartoonist, or somebody who just really loves the behind-the-scenes stuff, bypass this collection, get the Golden Collection Vol. 1, and enjoy the bonus features (I bought a copy of it for my brother a while back and he loves it). Then, rather than chastising other people, be happy that they're sharing the same interest, even if it is with a bit less zeal. They're not obligated to subsidize you and, frankly, the world has enough real problems. ... show more

  • Love Looney Tunes....
I opted for these series of Looney Tunes, as the price tag fit my budget. I'm sure the Gold Collection is nicer, but I am well pleased with this purchase. They feature some of the remembered classics I loved, and I am not obsessive about having each one made. It is also enough cartoons to share with kids in the family and give them a taste of what "real" cartoons really were and what we enjoyed. And it was great to watch and relive the old cartoons. Plus, the dvds are long enough to keep little ones laughing for a good amount of time! (Not to mention the adults!) It is fun to watch them as an adult, so you can see all the little subtle humour you missed as a child. I appreciate that they made two options available for Looney Tunes fans; a smaller more affordable collection for those that just want a smaller amount of cartoons, and a larger more expensive collection for those that want a more complete collection. I enjoyed them and would buy more in the future if more additions are made available. ... show more

  • Giggling Granddaughters!
My granddaughters often spend time at my office while I work. I got tired of listening to the same DVDs over and over. Ordered the Looney Tunes for them and told them they were going to watch what I used to watch. It has been so funny to watch them laugh and giggle as they watch! They love it!

  • Most of the cartoons were what I already have on other dvds
I think the sellers of Warner Bros cartoons should list all episodes in each dvd. This would prevent duplication of what buyers already have in they're collection. So I can't really rate this particular collection honestly. However I will rate what I already have which would be four and one half stars. ... show more

  • Cartoon Classics
As old as I am I really enjoy cartoons as does my family. When they, the establishment, started messing with the characters the price went to something rediclous. Cartoons were great, price not so much.
