  • GIVES NEW MEANING TO THE TERM "TAKEN TO THE WOODSHED"
First let me say that this film was a pleasant surprise. It was able to successfully marry horror, drama, and a touch of dark humor all at the same time. Our story begins with a chance encounter between a werewolf and a lost nebesh type individual in a nearby woods near his home. This leaves the hapless victim in a semi-werewolf state because his attacker is suddenly dispatched by the rising sun before it can finish the job. Taking shelter under the shade of a nearby tree to protect himself from the sunlight the man soon finds safe haven in the outside tool shed that belongs to his neighbor. His presence is accidentally discovered by Stan the 20 year old grandson of the man whose shed it is and lives next door. From that point on we have the following scenario (NO SPOILERS HERE). The abusive and angry grandfather of the previously mentioned Stan (excellently played by relative newcomer Jay Jay Warren) insists upon going into the shed despite the protests of his grandson when he hears noise coming from the shed. What happens to said grandfather (a nearly unrecognizable Timothy Bottoms) I leave to the imagination. Not long afterward, Stan's best friend - Dommer (Cody Kostro) - finds out what's in the shed during a visit and has sinister plans for it. Stan wants to kill what's inside; Dommer has other ideas. Constantly harassed and bullied by a trio of classmates at school, Dommer believes that the shed is a "gift" for him to exact revenge on his aggressors. Their leader named Marble (well played by Chris Petrovski of Madam Secretary fame) also beats up on Stan. But when Marble shows up at Stan's home, he is stopped by a gun touting Dommer from beating up Stan with a pair of brass knuckles during a fight there. Dommer now intends to make use of the shed to punish Marble. What happens next is a conflict between applying deadly punishment, ethical behavior, and how to kill the monster without getting killed in the process. There are plenty of twists and turns along with enough genuine scary moments to satisfy those who like this genre. (I'm one of them.) Despite the supernatural elements and violence in this film, there is also a good deal of basic admirable human behavior present which elevates it above the norm. To say any more would be to say too much. ... show more

  • Probably The Best And Most Original Vampire Movie In Years
Stan (Jay Jay Warren)'s life is hell. Orphaned and stuck in a home with his abusive grandfather, tormented, along with his only friend Dommer (Cody Kostro) by the local high school bullies, in trouble with the law, and secretly in love with an unattainable girl, Roxy (Sofia Happonen), his future prospects do not look any brighter than his present. Everything changes when a feral, newly turned vampire takes up residence in the shed in the backyard. That part might sound like it's describing a comedy; it's not, The Shed plays it straight and is very intense vampire horror on top of very intense real-life horror. I'll get the movie's only shortcoming out of the way early -- it defies common sense that after the vampire is discovered and made its first kills, Stan chains and boards up the shed's only entrance, but then does not bother to contact the police. Chalk it up to bad decision-making in times of unexpected panic, I guess. The next day he does meet with Dommer, who upon learning of the vampire convinces Stan to continue not calling the police. Dommer sees their vampire in the shed as their ticket out of daily torment -- if word of the creature gets out, no one will ever dare to bother he or Stan again. Of course it's a flawed plan, and goes disastrously awry. The standoff scene outside the shed in daylight hours when the vampire is trapped inside (vulnerable to sunlight) is one of the movie's more riveting and intense scenes, and there's another scene that I don't want to mention because it's near the end, that also manages exceptionally high tension. The whole movie is great though, including the film's less intense, gentler moments. This is probably the best and most original vampire movie of recent years, and a must-have for horror fans. ... show more

  • This is a Gem of a Horror Flick!!!
Good Characters, Decent Acting, Decent Practicals Effects, Mediocre Story. All in all it was Entertaining and Surprised me on how Good it actually was. This deserves more eyes on it and I Highly Recommend it to Fans of The Creatures of the Night Horror Types. The Characters were a Big Plus and the Acting being Decent was another Big Plus. I was not expecting much going into it, man was I wrong! The Rating on IMDb is Literally Retarded. Do not trust the critics look at the photos of some of them on Rotten Tomatoes, many of them are Cross-Dressing Sissy Boys or Femi-Nazis. Give movies a chance if you think you might like them don't not watch it because of the ratings you've seen from critics because a critic is the same as a "Knocker" and thats saying something. Mental Illness is something you can't discuss or you are a Fascist Misogynistic Racist and this is very Prevalent in The Movie Industry. Many "Knockers" are suffering from Mental Illness. ... show more

  • It's okay, could be better
It was okay. I felt empathy with the main character.and that is rare, so a few stars for that.
