  • Only used it once so far, but...
Size Name: 6"x 38"
I have owned a traditional posthole digger for decades. Lately, my elbows can't take the strain of using it, so I decided to try this auger out. It arrived an hour ago. Assembly was easy and the unit seems very robust. I immediately went to a location where I am going to plant a tree and tried it out. Holy cow, it was easy to use. Only 6' or so, beneath the surface, the soil is solid clay. I have struggled getting through this with the old posthole digger, but this auger pulled it up easily. The clay REALLY sticks to the auger, but it was easily removed with a garden trowel. My only regret is that I wish I had ordered the set with two augers (4" & 6"). • The quality of construction and ease to use
Size Name: 4"x 38"
I honestly have not had a chance to use this hole-digger yet, but I took it out of the box and was very pleased with its quality and ease to put together. I have no doubt it will work perfectly for my purposes which was to be able to make nice sized holes to plant flower bulbs. I can see it would be great for most of the reason you need to dig a hole and don't want to be on your knees digging for hours. The digger I got is not a tall pole so if your tall you may want a longer extension on your digger. Looking forward to digging some holes! ... show more

  • Works OK but the quality isn't impressive
Size Name: 4"x 38"
The good things first: it works pretty well. This is my first experience with an auger-type digger. I was able to dig holes, even in clay soil, with less effort than a clamshell post-hole digger. It got the job done and convinced me that this is the superior type of tool. However, I wasn't impressed with the build quality. The cutting edge was very thick and not sharpened at all. That made it hard to cut into the soil at times. A tapered leading edge would have really improved this product. Also, the screw is not continuously welded to the shaft; it's only connected in a few small patches with what looks like manual welds. These welds have to span a pretty big gap between the shaft and the screw. I'm not convinced the design is strong enough to be reliable. Leaning on the auger must put an awful lot of force on those welds, and I think they will fatigue over time. However, for occasional light-duty work it seems good enough. ... show more

  • It’s tough
Size Name: 4" & 6"x38"
I like the overall ease…although you’ve still gotta work at it if you’re in rocky dirt. Can’t get away from that. Wish the little screw that holds it together wouldn’t get loose so often…but I understand why it does. Just be sure to keep the little allen wrench they give you in your pocket. Over all a very solid tool and happy I purchased. ... show more

  • Fulfills its purpose
Size Name: 4"x 38"
I have soil that's suitable for making Adobe bricks. It is a mixture of clay and sand. The auger will work in this soil using the appropriate technique. However, a post hole digger is faster and easier to use.

Works well, like the gloves that come with it, it's a hand saver!

  • Broke on day 1
Size Name: 4" & 6"x38"
Got my $100 auger in the mail yesterday. I went shopping on Amazon for a hand auger and saw many for a third of the price of this one. Made the mistake of thinking a $100 auger would be sturdier and better quality than the many $30-$40 augers on Amazon. Today my son and I went out to plant a few cottonwood trees near our ditch with this auger and on the fourth hole, it broke. It was not even the weld that broke, the whole thing just sheared off. My husband had already commented that it was awfully lightweight for quality tool. It's now going to be too late to plant my cottonwoods I've been tending and rooting in water for 3 weeks. I'm pretty mad. This tool is not quality. I have no idea how to find a quality auger, but this isn't it. Might work if you have super soft fluffy soil already tilled. ... show more

  • Amazing !
Size Name: 6"x 38"
I love how easy it is. Even in clay soil a dug out a hole that was 6in wide and 30in deep within a minute. Very solid made! I wish I got it sooner well worth every penny. It’s actually better and more convenient than the gas auger I have.
