  • Very solid and bright unit for a nano or pico reef!
Color: A20 saltwater
First of all, I'm a person who does not even bother to do product reviews, but this product is really nice and special to me in a way that I'm gonna tell you why in the "Seller Feedback" section so I thought I would have to spend a few mins to write up a review. This unit is very well built. It feels extremely solid. This will definitely grow corals in a nano tank. I could not believe that with $50 I can get a unit like this. Prior to opening the box, I thought I would have to buy a battery to run the remote control but I was wrong. There is a battery included in the remote control AND another backup battery included in the box. What else would you ask for? The kit includes 2 lenses, 180 and 60 degree, a goose neck and a tank mount, which are everything you need to lid a nano reef tank. I bought this to run my Pico Reef Jar so I have to turn it down to a medium brightness setting to not burn my corals. All right people. This may be the 1st ever feedback I've ever provided for a product simply just because it does not even bother me to leave feedbacks. I have to do this because the product is really nice and the customer service of the seller is extraordinary. So I decided to buy this unit because it's a cheaper LED unit compared to others...so I thought I would give it a try. It was mainly to run a Pico Reef Jar and worth only $50 so I was thinking "whatever". I was surprised because the unit is very well built for the price tag. However, what surprised me more was the customer service of this seller. What happened was they have different mounts for different units (rimless vs rimed aquarium or marine vs freshwater units I believe). Mine came if with the wrong mount so I could not mount it to my Reef Jar. I took a pic of the mount and email it to the email address listed on the manual. it was during weekend so I thought I would not get any respond till the next Mon. Guess what? I got a response within A FEW MINUTES later. As far as my understanding goes, different units have different tank mount, I just had bad luck that they put the wrong mount in my unit. I guess we do all make mistakes but how we correct it is what really matters. So the customer representative assisted me throughout the process to get the correct tank mount named Darlene Huang. She explained to me what really happened and what she would do to correct the mistake. She said that she would send me a new tank mount. Again, I was kinda in bad luck that my issue happened during Amazon Prime Day so almost everything got delayed. Darlene did inform me about this and I totally understood it. The supposedly replacement tank mount package finally came in after about a week. The moment I picked it up from the ground, I knew for sure it was just not the mount. And I was right. She sent me a whole brand new different unit of the Freshwater version with the correct tank mount. I thought it was another mistake so I offered to send everything else back without the tank mount if she sent me a shipping label but she told me to just keep it. I guess it's a very good way to compensate the mistake in the first place. On and on... it was a very special buying experience with this seller and I definitely recommend it simply because the product is of good quality and the customer service is beyond awesome. ... show more

  • Great light with good power
Color: A20 freshwater
★★★★★ from AtypicalCollegeStudent on February 8, 2018 Great light with a lot of power! I ordered the Asta 20 planted version for my new 10 gallon tank. I thought I could make it work even with the tank rim (the product info has been updated to say it works on rimless tank only). Well, no luck on that, without cutting some of the rim. I was planning to mount it to a very small shelf behind the tank, when i realized it would clip perfectly to my bookshelf. The light comes with a flat 180° lens that spreads the light pretty far, and a domed 60° lens that makes it more of a spotlight. With the 180° lens, I was disappointed in the color rendering. My fish and plants appeared washed out. I tried the 60°, and that’s perfect! Somehow the light is warmer and more natural with the smaller spread. Several points: -as others state, the dimmer switch is finicky. If you want to dim it, start on full blast and slowly dial down. Going from off to medium dim just doesn’t happen- it goes from barely on to almost full blast. -the freshwater version does NOT come with a remote. The images clearly state the box contents. I think some people are confused because the box insert shows a remote. I believe the remote only comes with the saltwater version, but they use the same flyer inside each box, making it seem the remote should be there. -this light has enough power and spread with either lens to adequately light a 10 gallon tank. I’ve got medium light plants on one end of the tank, and I placed low light plants such as java fern on the opposite end of the tank. I could swivel the light to spread it out more and get what’s Is estimate to be medium light through the whole tank, but I have it focused on one side. My betta enjoys having a shady area, and I love the shadows and varying light levels this creates. I’m attaching some pictures of my betta in a rimless 5 gallon so you can see the great color of his fins and the plants. I’m also adding pics of the 10 gallon with light at full power, then slightly dimmed. ... show more
