Overall, this does what it's meant to do. Everything load bearing is cast steel and solid. I have three complaints, mostly minor. The first is that the spring on the hook is very weak. In my picture, you can see it fails to close it, requiring you to help close it. The second is that the unit was either damaged or a returned item. Nothing major, but there's visible paint scratches and marring from something with knurling or teeth clamped to it. The final complaint is with the bolt holes. There are two on the front that are easily accessible, one in the middle that is blocked by the reel, and none in the back. This is probably fine for most applications, but I'd prefer extra options for mounting holes just in case. ... show more

This is a straight forward winch system and easy to install anywhere. Doesn't come with any bolts for install but in a case like this I can ensure I'm getting bolts good enough to handle the stress. The 2 way pawl system is easy to work and it does a good job. I've only had one slight problem with this winch. Unless the winch is dead stright with what your trying to winch, the strap tends to walk to one of the sides and binds up. Something maybe they can work on. The winch itself is got quite a heft to it and feels sturdy enough to do the job. I used it on a utility trailer to pull a small car onto the trailer. This works well. As is typical, if the load isn’t lined up well the strap will wander off to the side. But that’s pretty normal in my experience. It’s got a 4:1 gear ratio, which helps a lot, but if you’re going all the way up to the rated 1600 lbs you’ll have to put some muscle into it. But you still get mechanical advantage from the handle being longer than the diameter of the wrapped strap. ... show more

Overall, this is a great product. It is heavy and durable. The wench has a locking mechanism. The hook is heavy and good quality with a thick line to pull items. The handle has some give in it. The handle is also bigger than expected. You have to mount it where the handle has room to move lower than the wench. The place I was planning to mount this will not work as it is a level surface where the handle will not rotate properly. See pictures. ... show more

This winch came in a decent protective box of its own, and it arrived in excellent condition. This is a quality winch. Each of the components looks to be up to its 1500 lb rating. The gauge of the steel is beefy. The crank and gears are all solidly built. Everything works well: it cranks easily and the gears mesh perfectly. The hook is also substantial and it works/latches easily. The webbed strap is well made along its entire length. I haven't seen any flaws or imperfections in any parts. The latching mechanism has three operating positions: crank in, free wheel and ratchet out. That's common on winches and it's good to see this winch can do these functions also. The mounting holes align perfectly with standard holes on trailers and other places where winches are typically placed. The winch comes with mounting hardware for mounting to a flat surface as typically found on trailers. I'll be using lag screws to mount it to a wooden platform on my dock floater. In either case the mounting should go very quickly. I'll be using this winch on my floater to winch kayaks and a jon boat up over side-mounted rollers and onto the floater. So it won't be stressed too badly. I am certain this winch is up to that task, so I'm happy with it. My only concern is with the web strap. It'll be in the summer sun, which could weaken it over time (years). That will be one to keep my eye on. In my opinion the web strap still beats galvanized cables that rust anyway and kink all the time. The web strap works very smoothly and is a significant improvement. ... show more

Works perfectly to lift Deer Hunting Ladder Stand – but need extra DIY parts … This is a high quality two way ratchet operated web strap winch with two gear ratios. Everything worked fine out of the box but I lube stuff up before field use. I admit I am a bit of a tinkerer and I just had to take the winch apart to add some extra lubrication. I have heard of people spraying WD40 everywhere as a lubricant but WD40 IS NOT a lubricant. Besides you do not want to get petrochemicals on the synthetic web strap which may destroy it. The winch mechanism works perfectly to lift up and position a Deer Hunting Ladder Stand but you need lots of DIY accessories. I made a tree mounting bracket, with a ratchet strap, to hold the winch as high up on the tree as I could comfortably reach. I also used store bought pivoting and anchoring ladder stand feet. There are lots of instructional videos you can watch showing lifting and positioning a Deer Hunting Ladder Stand using such a web strap winch. You can find complete ready made Deer Hunting Ladder Stand winch systems here on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Muddy-Ladderstand-Installation-Hoist-Black/dp/B00WOLOQ62 I did not work by myself, all by myself, way out in the woods like shown in some of those videos.     • Works perfect for my 21 foot center console

I just picked up a 21 foot center console that needs some TLC and freshening up. The Winch that was on the trailer was the cable style, that I just don't like using for this size of boat. The strap is nice and strong, with a little stretch to it. The boat is 2200 lbs so this shouldn't be a problem with it at all. The install was super easy, just a few bolts to loosen up and replace with the new winch. Having the dual speeds is a nice feature that I have used on other boat trailers in the past. When the boat is fully loaded with gear and fish it gets quite heavy. This winch didn't seem to have a problem moving the boat the little that I did it last night. I definitely like the color of the strap. It makes it easy to find it with water reflections coming off the dock area. ... show more
