At first they are a bit awkward to set up by yourself. Once you get the hang of it, it works well, both using nearby trees or poles for the set up. The first thing to change are the black corner ropes. I kept stumbling on them. I replaced with high vis kind. Much better. Also the front and back ropes are a bit on the short side, and could use more length to reach further trees. Loved the height (I am 5' 8") and kept the abundant bugs away from me. I waffled at the idea of buying a bug shelter for backcountry camping, particularly at the price of the name-brand version. But this version was on sale...and now I won't camp without it during bug season! It's a little bulkier than would be ideal, but it's lightweight and goes up super fast. I recommend bringing some extra guy-line or long, thin bungees, as the lines that come with the shelter are a bit short for the job. ... show more

Happy with this product. I’ve used Nemo bugouts in the past and they are great too but just cost a bit more than I wanted. I’ve taken this on 3 BWCA trips so far and have been happy with it. Our last trip had plenty of wind, rain, and bugs and we had four adults sitting comfortably inside staying dry. Only downside is it needs a few more tie out points to help the walls hold tighter in the wind. Use a little extra paracord and that solves the problem. To get it standing as tall as it’s made you’ll need to stand on a log, barrel, buddy, or something to get you up a few more feet. Overall I’d recommend this for canoe camping or car camping trips. Set this up in my back yard despite having no trees. Wanted to see how easy it was to setup. I had a couple old extension poles which worked well for the ends. Pros - lightweight and easy to setup - screen rolls up easily to use as a tarp or hammock cover - seams stitching appears well done - zippers work well - guide ropes came attached with rubber holders - guide rope tensioners are a nice plus Cons - stuff sack is too small. Will need to get a bigger stuff sack - stakes are pretty cheap and bend easily. Will be upgrading the stakes - this may not be a cool n for some, but the side walls could be about 6 inches taller. I’m 6 foot and if I hung it much higher, there would be gaps at the bottom Overall a great deal. This will definitely be in my camping gear. 07-20-2024 - Upgraded to 5 stars after using the on a 21 day northern MN canoe trip. Bugs were swarming. We set this screen house up at every campsite. It goes up quickly and was big enough to protect all our gear from the weather, we had lots of rain. We cooked in the shelter. Three way zippers worked without issue. This was a true test and it held up great in heavy winds, down pouring rain, and swarming mosquitoes. I still stand by my cons as listed on the original review, but they would simply be nice to have upgrades to an already great piece of camping gear. ... show more

I can't attest to how well it works because I never took it out of the sack. Description says it weighs 0.6 ounces (which seemed unbelievable) when it actually weighs 3 lbs. This was meant to be used for backpacking so it's easy too heavy to make it worthwhile.

Had this out for the first time this weekend, camping in a campground. The area I set up in was pretty darn level which took some of the guesswork out of height... 1) put this up before your hammock. Your hammock straps have to be strung through the zipper system. Your "peak" can be about 6'3" off tje ground without leaving a gap at the bottom. (If you're hoping for taller, sorry to say this is MAX) 2) bring stakes you like. The ones that came with it are junk. I gave them to the guy across the way who seemed to have forgotten his. The guy out lines are good, though I will be replacing for lighter, as well as different line-locs. 3) this is very thin, fragile materials. I expected that, but abrasions on the netting from the hammock straps after the first night was disappointing. I will be reinforcing this area. 4) the side walls could be a little taller. I was hoping to have more standing room. This made the product photos seem deceiving. Max height at side guy-out points, 4'7". I may modify, adding another 6-8" to the bottom all the way around. My picture shows this with a kammock mantis ul hammock- which is a 10' hammock. This tarp would not accommodate anything much longer, a key point as most people go for a 11-12' hammock. I'm short so I luck out here. The tarp itself is very thin, and coming from years with a light-blocking tarp, I was bummed how much light came through. For the price it's acceptable. I will be modifying and reinforcing it for more rigorous use. I will say it was nice to not have my zip-on bug net flapping against me all night! The breezes did cause the bottom hem material to make some noise. If I had been staying more than 2 nights, I would have staked this down more thoroughly. There are toggles around the tarp edge- for rolling up the bug netting out of your way. If I were redesigning this, I would place two along the sidewall edges, rather than just centering one. The corners where the tarp meets the bug net walls are reinforced and overall the stitching is well done- I will say one of the toggle/loop pairs was toggle toggle, but better than no toggle at all haha Plan on buying a bigger storage sack and or snakeskin storage for this. The included stuff sack might as well be a paper lunch bag. I did use some telescoping Poles to post this out as I would in "porchmode" with a regular tarp (these are also on Amazon in a set of 4- roughly $65) and to boost up the entry side as I couldn't get the line any higher on a tree I was using- I'm short folks! So 3 stars- useful as is, but some redesign for height and durability are needed. ... show more
